Two articles in this issue es
pecially caught my eye. One

ed at the idea of the teaching

but I have been doing some
reading and research on the
programs being developed by
various groups and publishers,
and the manner in which the
programs are being presented
-hould not alarm parents who
understand exactly what is be
ing undertaken in such a pro
gram.
There are few, VERY few
parents, I would guess, who
really teach their youngsters
any sex education. Pm sure
th’-rc are those in the enlight-
- nt-d generation who would say
"Oh, that won't be any prob
lem for me!" Funny—I said
the ,-ame thing a few years

Deputy Auditor
Mrs. Flizah-'th D. Fpting has
been appointed deputy auditor
for Newberry County, filling
the vacancy left when Mrs.
Jeanette Hamm was named to
fill the unexpired term of the
late Auditor Ralph Black.
Mrs. Fpting has worked in
the office of the County Audi
tor and Treasurer since 195f>.
Her appointment as deputy
auditor became effective this
month.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. Ray Dawkins of this city,
Mrs. Fpting is married to
Ralph I. Fpting. They have
two -Otis, Kerry, a senior at
Berry College, Rome, (la., and
Scott, seventh grade student at
Prosperity school. They have
one granddaughter, Stephanie
Marie Fpting.
The deputy auditor is a mem
ber of Crare Lutheran church,
Prosperity

May court term

Eighth Judicial Circuit’s new
resident Judge, Hon. Francis
B. Nicholson of Greenwood,
presiding. Judge Nicholson was
elected by the General Assem
bly in February to fill the va
cancy left by the retirement of

College plans
$3 million
ifund campaign
The South Carolina Luther
an Synod Tuesday approved
Newberry College plans for a
$3 million campaign for cap
ital funds and endowment.
This action came as t h e
Synod elected Dr. Karl Kin
ard of Columbia to his seventh
four-year term as president.
The Newberry College drive
will be held early in 1969. This
campaign already has won ap
proval of the Southeastern
Synod m Atlanta.
The Synod gained national
recognition for contributing for
the f-iurth straight year more
than KM) percent of its finan
cial goal to the Lutheran
Church m America.
Dr. Mclvm H. Fundeen of
New York City, secretary to
tin* LCA, said at the Spartan
burg meeting that South Caro
lina Synod is the only one of
32 to reach this goal.

The Exchange Club is spon
soring the May visit of t h e
Bloodmobile at Fellowship Hall
of the First Baptist church on
Monday from 2 p,m to 7 p.m.
The Blood program in New
berry is greatly lagging, ac
cording to Carol M. Hipp, club
president. Over 200 pints are
needed to bring the county up
to its quota for the year.
Mr. Hipp urges everyone who
possibly can to contribute
blood during the visit. Those
who need transportation are
asked to call 276-1840, and a
member of the Exchange Club
will provide travel to and from
the Blood center.
