C., Thursday, March 2, 1967—Page 3 Park receives assistantship A senior at Newberry Col lege, George Park of New berry, has received a teaching assistantship in the Depart ment of Chemistry at Univer sity of North Carolina. The stipend covers the 1967- 68 academic year starting in September of this year. Park, a chemistry major, is to receive a bachelor of science degree from Newberry College in May. He is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Conrad B. Park. Many helped by purchase of Easter Seals A record number of crippled children and adults were help ed during 1966 by the South Carolina Crippled Children’s Society, it was announced to day by Phil Kelly, Easter Seal Chairman for Newberry coun ty. Most of the children and ad ults received treatment and other rehabilitation services financed mainly by contribu tions made during the Easter Seal campaign, he reported. These contributions made possible medical diagnosis, phy sical and occupational therapy, residential camping, special ed ucation, speech and hearing programs, and other services to rehabilitate handicapped children and adults. They also purchased wheelchairs, walk ers, hospital beds and other special equipment for loan to crippled persons. Kelly said the Society also contributes a portion of its Easter Seal funds to the Nat ional Society for Crippled Children and Adults, of which it i an affiliate. Part of this money goes to the Easter Seal Research Foundation for grants to universities and other insti tutions investigating causes TAX RETURNS PREPARED T. L. Newberrians are asked to re spond immediately to their letters. TAKING PART IN DIRECTED TEACHING COLUMBIA—Marsha Lomi- nack from Newberry is taking part in six weeks of directed teaching at Columbia College during the current semester. Each o fthe 142 prospective elementary and secondary school teachers is required to observe and to instruct in class room situations similar to those she will encounter when entering the profesion. Realtor Board Ladies Night in Columbia The Newberry County Board of Realtors held its third an nual ladies night meeting at the Forest Motel restaurant, in Oolumbia, on Monday night. Despite the inclement weather there was a very fine attend ance to partake of a bounteous meal. In addition to the active members of the Board with their wives present, were af filiate members John Clarkson and Mrs. Clarkson, represent- ingthe Newberry Federal Sav ings and Loan and Joe Roberts and Mrs. Roberts representing State Bank and Trust Com pany. From Columbia guests were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Creason, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Baer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bowen. Mr. Creason was the sponsor of the local Board when it was organized. Mr. Baer is Real Estate Commissioner of S. C. while Ed Bowen is ex ecutive vice president of the S. C. Board of Realtors. All made brief talks, with Mr. Creason installing the newly elected officers of the local board, consisting of Hal Kohn, President, Louis Floyd, Vice President, Bobbie Summer, secretary and treasurer. Bill Reid and Keitt Purcell, along Light-hearted salad with the officers, constitute the board of directors. Since the organization of the local board many meetings have been held and a number of projects have been engaged in. It’s information assures the people of this county that it's members and the other 84,000 Realtors in the U. S. strive to live up to all of the ethics of the organization, which is exemplified by this definition: ^ Real ton, a professional in real estate who subscribes to a strict code of ethics, as a member of the local board and of the National Association of Real Estate Boards.” MOVE TO AIKEN Mr. and Mrs. George K. Dominick moved Tuesday to Aiken to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Whit- acre plan to move in a few weeks to the George Domi nick home, which they recently purchased, located at 1924 Nance street. Chappell made law partner John W. Chappell of Sumter, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Chappell of Newberry, has be come a partner in the law firm of Nash and Chappell, formed as the successor to the firm of Nash and Wilson at eight Law Range, Sumter, S. C. Chappell, a 1965 graduate of the University of South Carolina Law School, has been associated with the law firm of Nash and Wilson in Sumter for the past year and a half. Mr. Wilson died in 1965. Chappell has now become a partner with Mr. Nash. He is married to the former Suzanne Ellis. They have one child, a daughter, Laura. They live in Sumter. Miss Sarah Metis has moved to 2626 De Loach Ave. to make her home. ISLE OF PALMS GIRL WINS GLAMOUR TITLE Linda Lubelsky, freshman from Isle of Palms, was sel ected “Miss Glamour" for 1967 by the editorial staff of The Indian, Newberry College stu dent newspaper. She will represent Newberry College in a contest sponsored by Glamour Magazine to sel ect the “Ten Best-Dressed College Girls" for 1967. Miss Lubelsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lubelsky Jr., 1009 Palm Blvd., Isle of Palms, was second runner-up in the 1967 Newberrian contest. GAIL LIGHTSEY NAMED RAT QUEEN A freshman from Alexandria, Va., Gail Lightsey, was named 1967 Rat Queen at Newberry College recently.
