Thursday rites
for Mrs. Cook
Mrs. Lola Smith Cook, 72,
died early Wednesday morning
at the Newberry County Me
morial hospital after several
weeks serious illness. She had
been indeclining health for se
veral years.
Mrs. Cook was born and
reared in Saluda county, but
had spent most of her life in
Newberry, and was a daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. John
Smith. She was a member of
Epting Memorial Methodist
church and the WSCS as long
as her health permitted. Her
husband, Colie L. Cook, Sr.,
died several years ago.
Mrs. Cook is survived by
three sons, Ralph T. Cook,
Marshville, N. C.; James O.
Cook, Richmond, Va.; Colie L.
Cook Jr., Greenville ; three
daughters, Mrs. Bill Dillishaw,
Monroe, N. C.; Mrs. Ed Ad
ams, Newberry and Mrs. Willie
Lee Ringer, Newberry. One
brother, Robert Smith, Augus
ta, Ga., also survives.
Funeral services were con
ducted Thursday at the Mc-
Swain Funeral home with Rev.
M. B Lee and' Rev. Joseph
Alley conducting the service.
Burial followed in Rosemont

The late Queen Salote of the Tonga Islands was the author
of the World Day of Prayer service for 1967 using the
“Of His Kingdom There Shall Be No End-” Queen Salote
ruled her independent kingdom for 47 years. The first observ
ance of the World Day of Prayer earh year is held in Tonga
and the Queen always led her people in this observance. World
Day of Prayer in Newberry will be February 16 at Aveleigh
Presbyterian Church.
