Two members of the Mid-Carolina Band were chosen to play
in the Junior High All-State Band Sunday, January 29 at Fur
man University. This group will also play with the Senior High
All-State Band and a record will be cut and sold of the per
formance. Left is Angela Dominick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
A. M. Dominick of Route 2, and right is Janice Rader, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Rader of Little Mountain. They were
chosen in active competition from students of schools all over

Mr. Lester has conducted his
business for a number of
years in the Hicks building on
College street.
Yoder L. Addy
died Thursday
Yoder Lee Addy, 72, died
Thursday at the Veterans hos
pital in Columbia.
Mr. Addy was born and rear
ed in Lexington county and
was the son of the late Willis
M. and Mary Kay Stoudemire
Addy. For a number of years
he had made his home in Little
Mountain and was a member
of Holy Trinity Lutheran
church. He was a farmer and
sawmill operator.
Mr. Addy is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Lois Shealy Addy,
Little Mountain; three daugh
ters, Mrs. Cephus Sandel, Lit
tle Mountain, Mrs. B. M. Der
rick, Chapin and Mrs. Edward
Fulmer, Columbia.
Funeral services were con
ducted Saturday from Holy
Trinity church with Dr. Grady
Cooper conducting the service.
PANCAKE SUPPER
BEING PLANNED
The ladies of St Luke’s
Episcopal Church are busy pre
paring for the annual Shrove
Tuesday pancake supper to be
held at the Parish House on
Tuesday, February 7. The
Ladies will serve pancakes,
sausage, bacon, butter, syrup,
and coffee from 5:30 to 8:00
p.m. Tickets, to be sold at the
door, will be $1.00 for adults
and 50c for children 12 years
and under.
Shrove Tuesday precedes
Ash Wednesday, the first day
of Lent, and it was an ancient
custom to go to the priest,
confess one’s sins and be shri
ven. Pardon and absolution of
sins was received before the
beginning of Lent. ‘
The day was also known as
Pancake Tuesday because the
people cooked pancakes to use
all grease in the house, as no
meat was to be eaten during
the 40 days of Lent.
Three honored
by Jaycees
Three local men were pre
sented awards by the Newber
ry Jaycees Tuesday night in
recognition of outstanding
community service during 1966.
Harold E. Folk, 30, was pre
sented the “Distinguished Ser
vice Award.” Jimmy Kesler,
32, was named “Young Farmer
of The Year” and H. B. Kirke-
gard was presented the “Boss
of The Year” award.

presented the plaques.
