Promotes Three
Three promotions of officers
in. the South Carolina National
Bank in Newberry have been
announced: Lewis J. Shealy to
Vice President, William D.
Kibler Jr. to Assistant Vice
President and William E. De-
hihns Jr. to Assistant Cashier.
Mr. Shealy joined SCN in
11^42 as a bookkeeper. He is
now in charge of the Install
ment Loan Department and
the Harrington Street office.
A graduate of Robinson
Business College, Spartanburg,
he has taken sevtral American
Institute of Banking courses.
At present, Mr. Shealy is
chairman of the Membership
Committee for the Newberry
Civitan club. He has served as
president, theasurer and as
member of the board of di
rectors for the club.
A member of the Lutheran
Church of The Redeemer, he is
financial secretary and assist
ant treasurer for the church
and a past mtmber of the
church council.
He was a sergeant in the
Army from 1945-46. Mr. Shea
ly is married and has one
daughter.
Mr. Kibler, who has been
promoted to Assistant Vice
President, is operations offi
cer and commercial loan offi
cer for SCN in Newberry. He
joined the bank in 1953 as a
bookkeeper.
He is a director for the
Rotary club and treasurer for
the Newberry County Heart
Association and the Newberry
County T. B. Association. He
is past treasurer of the Rot
ary club.
A member of St. Phillip’s
Lutheran church, Mr. Kibler
serves on the church council.
He is a graduate of New
berry College and the Bank
ing School of The South, Lou
isiana State University.
He served in the Army from
1950-51. Mr. Kibler is mar
ried and has one son.
Mr. Dehihns, new Assistant
Cashier, is manager of the
College street office, 3123

Mr. Dehihns joined SCN in

Mr. and Mrs. Strother Daniel Paysinger announce the marriage
of her daughter, Barbara Wier Clarkson to Mr. Dale Matthew
Willis, Jr. on Thursday, the twenty-second of December, nine
teen hundred and sixty-six in Kent, Ohio.
Mr. Willis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Matthew Willis,
Sr. of Trenton, New Jersey and is attending graduate school
and teaching at Kent State University.
Mrs. Willis is a graduate of Newberry College and is employed
as a social worker with the Welfare Department in Akron, Ohio.

Mr. Dehihns was a sergeant

UDC program
on war heroes
M rs. Lonnie Gilliam was
hostess for the January meet
ing of Drayton Rutherford
Chapter U. D. C. on Tuesday,
January 3 at 10:30 a.m.
Mrs. A. J. Briggs, president,
called the meeting to order.
Mrs. Ralph P. Baker led in
the Salutes to the Flags and
the U.D.C. ritual in the ab
sence of the chaplain.
Mrs. Briggs announced that
the annual Lee-Jackson pro
gram would be held at New
berry High school on January
16 at 9:10 a.m. The speaker
will be Robert D. Schumpert,
local attorney. Calvin Crozier
Chapter is in charge of the
program.
In the absence of the pro
gram leader, Mrs.-Fil Bowler,
program chairman, gave an
interesting paper on Generals
Lee and Jackson, and showed
pictures of the Lee Chapel at
Washington and Lee Univer
sity.
Attended meet
in Memphis
January 4th and 5th Mr.
and Mrs. Ned Carlisle of New
berry attended a two-day busi
ness meeting in Memphis,
Tenn. The occasion was a
sales conference held by Side
Winder of Minden, Louisiana.
The meeting was held in Mem
phis because of its central lo
cation. The business portion of
the meeting was devoted to
the products of Side Winder,
notably the Tilther, a mini
mum-trip tillage farm imple
ment that performs the multi
ple functions of preparing the
seed bed, planting, fertilizing
and weed control incorporation,
and cultivating.
The ladies’ program involved
a tour of some of the most
famour pre-Civil war mansions
of the South, as well as a din
ner meeting with their hus
bands to conclude two full days
of meetings.
Mr. Carlisle is district sales
manager for Side Winder, pro
moting the Tilther in South
Carolina.
Mrs. Bowers, 83
rites Monday
PROSPERITY — Mrs. Ola
Bedenbaugh Bowers, 83, widow
of Jacob A. Bowers Sr., died
late Sunday afternoon after a
long illness.
Born in this county, daughter
of the late David M. and Ellen
Warner Bedenbaugh, she was
a member of Zion Methodist
church and the WSCS.
Surviving are three daugh
ters, Mrs. G. K. Dominick of
Newberry; Mrs. Claud Powell
Jr., of Columbia and Mrs. Lyon
Fellers of Prosperity; a son
Jacob A. Bowers of Prosperity
and two sisters, Mrs. R. B.
Bowers and Mrs. A. P. Boozer
of Prosperity; three brothers,
C. W., D. A. and D. L. Bed
enbaugh of Prosperity; 12
grandchildren; 10 great-grand
children and a sister-in-law,
Mrs. Pet Bowers, with whom
she lived.
Funeral services were con
ducted Monday at 4 p.m. at
Zion church by Rev. Raymond
W. Brock. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andy, Dav
id, Monte, Billy and Bobby
Bowers, Glenn and Terry Fel
lers, Buddy and Scott Powell.
Ernest Mitchell Perdue and
Debra Jane Bowers were mar
ried on December 4 at Silver-
street.
