TREE SYMBOL The fir tree was an early reli gious symbol in many parts of the world. Dr Oswald Hoffman, of radio’s The Lutheran Hour says this was probably brought about by the fact the fir is an evergreen and always flourished through each of the four seasons; thus symbolic of a beloved God who. was immortal. Library board makes headway on building At its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 13, the Newberry-Saluda Regional Li brary Board made progress to ward beginning the renovation of the old post office building as its new headquarters by ap proving the final plans submit ted by the architects, Leslie, Leslie and Associates of New berry. The building committee of the Board, Earl Bergen, chair man, and Mrs. B. A. Fretwell and Keitt Purcell, members, met before the regular meeting to review and discuss the ar chitect’s sketches. These plans, along with an outline of speci fications, an estimated cost of operation and service, a list of initial equipment, and a state ment of local financial funds will be submitted to the South Turner & Taylor HOWARD F.
