The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, December 23, 1965 SEC. A—PAGE 5 Huff graduates with high honors CLEMSON.—Glenn Huff of Whitmire, a Clemson electrical engineering student who never made below an A in the class room during three and one-half years of university work, fig ures it’s tougher at Clemson today than when he began his career here in the fall of >962. Young Huff picked up his diploma here Saturday after noon, finishing with highest honors and departmental hon ors, and is a shoo-in for the Faculty Scholarshio Award made each year to the top scholar. He entered Clemscn in September 1962 as one of four R. F. Poole Alumni scholars. “In 1962, I was one of only 11 engineering students who be- ban their college math with cal culus and analytical geometry,” he recalled. “Today, all engi neering students begin with calculus—or else take non-cred it work leading to it.” Huff’s beginning in calculus and second semester English as a result of high entrance ex amination scores helped him to finish Clemson in seven semes ters, but it cost him a rare perfect academic record. “I was given the choice of taking B's in first semester freshman English and mathe matics or attending those class es. I took the B’s” he said. Any regrets? Not really. Glenn figures he couldn’t have finished as rapidly as he did otherwise. And besides, he didn’t have any idea he’d be making all A’s in his classes. “Finishing early enables me to get married early,” Huff al so noted. “And it will save me the cost of another semester in school.” The young Whitmire native will marry high school sweet heart Nita Baker of Whitmire, a Senior at Furman, and go to work with I.B.M. in Greenville through the end of next sum mer. At that time, he plans a return to the classroom for graduate studies. How did he go about making all A’s at Clemson? “Once I got started, things just fell in line for me. There was a lot of luck involved.” What impressed him most a- bout Clemson during his time here? “The potential . . . the de termination being shown to keep the school progressing. They seem to be jumping in with both feet to accomplish this. I’m proud to have a Clem son diploma and found in rr.y 1 job interviews that a Clemson degree commands much res pect.” PROFESSORS ATTEND RELIGION ACADEMY Two Newberry College pro- fesors will attend the annual meeting of the American Aca demy of Religion at Vanderbilt University Dec. 27-30.
