You can place it in a pail of cold water, sweet ened with a cup of syrup, sugar of molasses. You can also place it in a box of wet sand to prevent it from drying out. Whatever you do, be sure it is anchored firmly, will not fall or be knocked over as someone passes by. OLD FASHIONED .... Here’s an old-fashioned Christmas tree, featuring paper chains, candy stockings, star-shaped cookies, and gingerbread men for decora tions. And for toys, drums, hobby horse, carousel, and the popular Teddy Bear. HUNG WITH CARE .... The custom of hanging stockings for Santa at Christmas began centuries ago in Amsterdam, when young sters realized that a stocking would stretch and thus hold more than a wooden shoe, the traditional receptacle for holiday gifts until that time. ARMY OF JOY For Salvation Army workers across the country, Christmas is not a day for personal celebration but for giving cheer to the less fortunate. In larger cities meals are provided for thousands at so cial centers, dinners are served at transient centers, delivered to shut-ins. Funds come from many sources and the Army’s tradition al kettle appeal helps “keep the pot boiling.” V i a note of cheer at this happy holiday time!
