Williams died Sunday; was Newberrian CLEMSQN.—Samuel Andrew Williams, 64, extension agrono mist for Clemson College, died in the Veterans Hospital in Columbia Sunday after nine months illness. , ’ Native, of the Sharon com munity in Abbeville county, son of the late James S. and Susan Woodhurst Williams, he was a Clemson graduate, Class of 1922, assistant county agent in Newberry county, 1942-43 and served as a first lieutenant in World War H before moving to Clemson in 1944 as extension cotton ginning specialist. He was a former president of the State Wildlife Associa tion, a member of Clemson Lodge AFM, a ruling elder and former Sunday school superin tendent of Fort Hill Presby terian church. - Survivmgare his wife, Mrs. Florence Fant Williams, a fos ter son, L. F. Fant of Colum bia; two sisters, Mrs. Eva W. Langley and Miss Ellie Will iams of Abbeville; three broth ers, Lamar, Gillespie and Rich ard Williams of Abbeville. CAMPUS COMMENTS The basketball teams have really been on the ball this year! The Bulldogettes have won all their games this sea son. Although the boys haven’t won a game, all their games have been very close. Both Jun ior Varsity teams have won all their games. The student body was enter tained Friday, December 10 by the Junior High School chorus. It was a most delightful pro gram. Friday morning, December 17, the Newberry High School Band and Chorus will present a combined Christmas program. Both groups will present both the light and the more serious sides of Christmas music. County native died Monday James H. (Jim) Hendrix, 72, of 103 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Greenville, died Monday at a Greenville hospital after a sud den attack and several months declining health. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Thomas and Eli zabeth Pitts Hendrix. He had lived in Greenville since 1926. Mr. Hendrix was employed by Brandon Mills and was a mem ber of St. Mark Methodist Church. His first wife, Mrs. Lola Lee Bedenbaugh Hendrix, died 44 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Willie Freeman Hen drix of the home; six daugh ters, two sons, a sister, 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Poem published A poem “Question,” by Prof. John C. Cooper of Newberry College, was published in “Am erican Poetry, Old and New,” a recent anthology. Funeral services were con ducted at 3:?9 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Presbyterian church by Rev. The University Shoppe Auxiliary holds memorial service The American Legion Auxil iary held its December meeting at the home of Mrs. T. M. Fel lers. Associate hostesses were Mrs. Joseph N. Nicosia, Mrs. Ray Schumpert and Mrs. Hous ton Long. The President, Mrs. M. F. Bowler, presided over the bu siness session. After the usual ritualistic service, Mrs. L. G. McCullough, Memorial Chairman, gave an appropriate memorial to Mrs. Herman Attaway who died re cently. A contribution will be sent to the Child Welfare Foun dation in loving memory of Mrs. Attaway. She was a faithful member of the Auxiliary. Several members announced plans to go to the Veterans hos pital in Columbia on Monday, December 13 to work in the Gift Shop. Donations of each member and gifts were brought to this meeting to be taken to the Gift Shop. Zone 1 meeting was held in Edgefield on Saturday, Decem ber 4th. Miss Grace Summer, as vice president of Zone 1, presided. Members of the New berry unit attending were Mrs. M. F. Bowler, Mrs. W. Roy Anderson, Miss Sudie Dennis, Mrs. C. A. Dufford Sr., Mrs. T. M.
