A / THURSDAY, OCTOBER I, 1964 THE NEWBERRY SUN, NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA PAGE FIVE Garden Club district meet The East Piedmont District Presidents’ Meeting' of the Garden Club of South Carolina was held at the Grace Methodist church in Union on September 15. The Good Neighbors Garden Club was liOstess for the occasion. A delightful coffee hour and registration preceded the busi ness session during which Mrs. E. H. Hughes, District Director, of Union presided. The invocation was given by Mayor C. P. Strib- ling who also welcomed the gar den club members to Union. Plans of work for the coming year were given by the State officers, state and district chair men. Highlight of the meeting was a mesage delivered by Mrs. Dew ey Johnson, president of the Gar den Club of South Carolina, of Greenwood. She was introduced by Mrs. Gary Paschal, immediate past president, of Columbia. Mrs. Fred E. Holcombe of Clin ton was elected East Piedmont District Director and will take office in April 1965. Following a delicious luncheon, the resolutions were made by Mrs. John R. Frazier,. co-director, of Newberry. A flower arranging demonstra tion entitled “Modern Design Stressing Textures” was present ed by Mrs. R. M. Riddle of Ches ter. J. C. Dowling of Gaffney as sisted with the program. In attendance at seminar A delegation of Jehovah’s Wit nesses from the local congrega tion returned late Sunday from a three-day Bible Seminar at Green wood. Heading the list of Bible lec tures heard was the climactic ad dress Sunday in which Bruce E. Griffin, district supervisor, pre dicted the only means by which the divisions in the world would be healed will be by God’s Kingdom, under Christ Jesus. T. L. Brooks, presiding minister here, said local Jehovah’s Wit nesses, as a public service, provide free Bible instruction on thi> and other aspects of scriptural pro phecy. 571 people were present for the featured address and six were baptized and ordained into the ministry as a highlight of the Sat urday sessions. Abrams, Chairman of the Heart Fund cam paign Executive Committee. Proceeds of tha campaign will be used to fight the heart and cir culatory diseases now responsible for more than 52 percent of all deaths in South Carolina. These diseases include heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries, rheu matic fever and inborn heart de fects. •B. M. Montgomery, M.D. of Newberry, is president of the Heart Association. The annual nationwide cam paign, which supports the re search, education and community service programs of the American Heart Association and its affil iates begins with the opening of Heart Month, February 1. LUKE’S Thursday, November 5 has been set as the date for the annual Ba zaar of the Women's Guild of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Through the years, the bazaar has become well known for the variety of items it offers, especially in the line of Christmas decorations and gifts. Plans are being made for the ba zaar and workshops will be held each Monday until Bazaar time. Location for the event will be the Parish House, adjacent to the church. .
