Newberry Memorial Hospital
Tuesday morning is recuperating
nicely.
Sease dies after
sudden attack
Loland Leonard (Babe) Sease,
69, died suddenly Thursday after
noon at his home, Route 3, Pros
perity. He was working at his
farm when he was stricken.
Mr. Sease was born and reared
in Newberry County and was the
son of the late John and Ella Jane
Koon Sease. He was a life member
of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and
was a farmer.
Mr. Sease is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Virgie Wilson Sease,
Prosperity; one daughter, Mrs.
Mamie Ella Shealy, Prosperity;
Ben Sease, both of Prosperity;
three sisters, Mrs. Edna Young,
Mrs. Mallie Nichols, both of New
berry, and Mrs. Cleo Shealy, Pros
perity; three grandchildren, Leo
nard, Michael and Cindy Shealy.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday at 3 p.m. from St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church with Rev. Harry
Crout conducting the service. In
terment was in the church ceme
tery.

State Fair to
honor elderly
COLUMBIA — South Carolina
citizens can make the easiest $100
ever at the South Carolina State
Fair this year.
Just for being the oldest mar.
and oldest woman m attendance
at the State Fair’s “Senior Citi
zens Day” on Wednesday, Octo
ber 21, these citizens will be
awarded $100 each.
And James L. McIntosh, Presi
dent of the State Fair Association,
said, “One hundred dollars will
also be given to the married
couple living together for the
greatest number of years.”
In addition to these prizes, cash
awards will also be presented this
year to the Senior Citizens of
South Carolina writing the best
one-page essay on “Why I Would
Like to Live to lOO.” Entries are
now being received in care of the
Fair Secretary F. B. Ruff’s office
at the State Fairgrounds, Colum
bia.

Study made of
labor force
A very detailed and comprehen
sive analysis of the labor force is
currently being made in the New
berry area, involving a twenty-
mile radius, including the census
districts of Chapin, Chappells,
Clinton, Joanna, Newberry, Po
maria, Prosperity, Rivers, Saluda,
and Whitmire. The study is being
conducted through the Newberry
Development Board with technical
direction given by the South Caro
lina State Committee for Techni
cal Education. The survey will be
conducted during the period of
September 23 through 27.
Persons will be asked a number
of simple questions concerning
their employment status, educa
tion, age, length of local residence,
etc. Twenty local people have been
selected to do the survey work.
The information will be trans
ferred to IBM cards, and the re
sults will be obtained through the
use of electronic data processing
equipment.
The purpose of the study is to
obtain long needed and important
information to be used for indus
trial growth and' development in
this area. Similar surveys in oth
er areas of the state have been in
strumental in plant location and
industrial growth. Those people
contacted are urged to be most co
operative that the study may be
completed accurately and exped
iently.
A spokesman pointed out that
the importance of such a study
cannot be overemphasized.
