QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOTING 1 Each person offering to vote in this election must have resided in the State of South Carolina for one year, in Newbery county for six months and in the precinct at which he offers to vote for three months, all prior to June 9, 1964. 2. Each person offering to vote must have duly registered on the county books of Registry for j Newberry county in the precinct at which he offers to vote during the period September 3, 1957 to May 9, 1964, both inclusive. 3. As required by the Rules of the Democratic Party of South Carolina, each person offering to vote shall present his registration certificate. The managers shall administer to each person offering to vote an oath that he is qualified to vote at this election, according to the Constitution of this State and that he has not voted during this election. The managers have the power to fill a vacancy in their number, and if none of the managers at tends the citizens can appoint from among the qualified voters, managers, who after being duly sworn ,can continue the election. At the close of the election the managers and clerks must proceed publicly to open the ballot box and count the ballots therein, and con tinue without adjournment until the same is completed, and make a statement of the results of such election, and sign the same. Im mediately thereafter, the chair man of the managers, or someone designated by the managers, must deliver to the Secretary the poll list the, box containing the ballots and written statements of the re sults of the election. Forestry Camp For Boys Set Boys from 12 to 17 years of age can win a free one-week trip to the South Carolina Boys’ Fores try Camp to be held at Camp For est, Cheraw State Park, July 17- to 31st. Boys can apply by writing a postal card stating “I would like to attend Boys’ Forestry Camp.” Cards should give name, age, school and grade, address and the county of residence, and should be mailed to the County Ranger, S. C. State Commission of Forestry, at the countv seat. i? The deadline for mailing cards is midnight June 24. From the cards received, one boy will be selected from each county to attend the week-long forestry camp. Trans portation to and from camp, food, lodging, and all camp expenses will be provided. This is the 18th annual Boys’ Forestry Camp and is sponsored by the S. C. State Commission of Forestry. In addition to the 46 boys to be selected by the Forestry Com mission, 24 FFA boys and 24 4-H boys will be selected to attend the camp. Boys interested in winning this free week of recreation and for estry instruction at the 1964 S. C. Epps in Columbus, Ga., will return to her home on Cal houn street this weekend. Her daughter, Mrs. E. M. Lipscomb, who has made her home in Augus ta for the past several years, will return to Newberry to live with her mother. For Supervisor And They Are All Your Friends Everyone has lots of them selling insurance. While it's nice to save some business for each, it's not the best way to buy protection. It can cause dangerous gaps or overlapping coverage. It's time consuming and expensive. It can mean divided responsibility. Shealy, who is seeking re turn to the office of Supervisor in which he served three terms, said today he was offering for the office on a four-point program of honesty, efficiency, experience and cooperativeness. “During the years I served as Newberry County Supervisor, the records in the office were honestly kept,” he said. “My administration was one of honesty, courtesy and politeness.” Shealy also said that during his previous terms of office, he “tried very hard to serve all the people under my jurisdiction, devoting my service to the upper district as well as to the lower district. It is a hard job to serve all the roads of the county,” he said, “but the voters of Newberry may be assured that I will personally visit all areas of the county to ’ see what needs to be done, and do everything in my power to see that it is done.” Mr. Shealy stated “It is my be lief that my experience as a suc cessful business man in my pri vate enterprise, and my know ledge of county business and road work gained through years of ex perience, qualify me for the of fice of Supervisor.” The candidate for Supervisor was born and reared in Newberry County. He and his wife have lived for the past five years in Newberry at 921 Langford street. He is a member of Mayer Memor ial Lutheran church. 'i * Re-Elect RALPH B. I shall ever be grateful to you for this expression of your confidence. Now I am asking your support for another term of office. I am making this race for re-election solely on my rec ord of service to you. I am proud of it. We have no unsolved murder cases. During my terms of office the records of safe-cracking and house-breaking have been very light. We have trackd down defendants as far away as Kansas, Iowa, Arizona, New Mexico, New York and Florida. I am glad to tell you that not one of these criminals was from our own county. My fellow-citizens, tested and tried experience in pub lic office counts. That is somthing you cannot buy at any price. I am proud of the fact that every circuit judge has praised my office for the way in which the en forcement of the law is handled in Newberry County. Every grand jury has commended my office for the effi cient manner in which indictments have been prepared and witnesses on hand to expedite the business of the Court, and thus save money for the taxpayers of New berry County. T' ^ j ' fit's . ‘ • ' I have five capable deputies and all of them have had highly successful experience. Reports that come to me show that these men treat everyone with courtesy. They continually patrol the county somtimes until midnight or later. They are subject to call of duty, just as I am, 24 hours around the clock. Some of you know we have promptly answered your calls even in the dead of night. There is an extension telephone from the Newberry Po lice Station to my office and to my home. My deputies and I stand ready to answer your calls at any time of the day or night. We have proven that time and again. I wish that we could have enough men to work in regular shifts but the County Delegation, who have always been good to my office, can afford to give us only five depu ties. Our Senator and our Representative always look to the welfare of the taxpayers of our County, and with that fine attitude, I heartily agree. I am trying to see as many of you personally as I can in behalf of my candidacy for re-election, but I will not neglect any of my duties as your Sheriff to conduct this campaign. So, if I do not see you, just know that it is because I am attending to my duties as your Sheriff. I shall try to reach you through the press and radio, but you deserve a Sheriff who gives his full time to his job and that is what I am determined to do. -I thank you for the support you have given me in the past and if you return me to the office of Sheriff the only promise I am willing to make is to give you the same faithful service I have rendered in the past. Let me urge every qualified voter to go to the polls on Election day. Vote as a good citizen, each of you, and if you cast your ballot for the man best qualified to serve you for the next four years as your Sheriff, I am confident that you will re-elect me for another term. •If you do so, and, if the Lord is willing, I will serve for the full term.
