He was born in Oconee county ’ and was a route man for Ideal Laundry company. He was graduated from Green wood high school and attended Newbery college and the Univers ity of South Carolina. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Bolcholz of Newberry, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Friday from a Char leston Funeral home. Burial was in Edgewood cemetery in Green wood. — For Magistrate One of the three candidates for the office of Magistrate District Two, Newberry, is B. Eugene Shealy, who resigned from the Newberry Police department af ter 14 years service to make this race. “I believe my 14 years exper ience as a city policeman qualifies me for the job,” Shealy said, “and if elected, I will be of service to all the people of Newberry coun ty.” Born and reared in Newberry county, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ber- ley C. Shealy of this city, he at tended Newberry City schools and started work at Newbeny Cotton Mills at an early age. After 18 years there, he became associated with Newberry Dairy Cooperative for two years, worked six months with Maxwell Bros, and Lindsay, then became a member of the city police force in 1950. He is married to the former Miss Gladys Eargle of Granite- ville and they have two children, Milton and Mrs. Martha Delle Bowers. Mr. Shealy is a member of the Mayer Memorial Lutheran church and a member of the Church Coun cil and the Men’s Bible class. He is former choir director of the church. He served the city as a Councilman from Ward 5 for four years. The candidate was a member of the 246th National Guard Band for nine years and served as ser geant in charge of all band sup plies and equipment for seven years. “If elected to this office, I will give prompt and efficient service to all,” he said. Cook Dies j In California I Mrs. James W. Koon of New berry received word last week of the death of her uncle, George C. Cook, 96, in Orange, Calif. Mr. Cook, a native of Saluda county, passed away May 21 at the home of his son, Garland, af ter several years declining health. He was superintendent of Pan ola Mills of Greenwood for 'ten years and the Draper Mills, Dra per, N. C. for 20 years. After re tiring from the mill, he was a prominent merchant in Draper un til his health forced him to move to California. His wife, Mrs. Jessie Cook, pre ceded him to the grave several years ago. Survivors, besides Mrs. Koon, include one son, Garland, and one daughter, Judy and a sister, Mrs. Ernest Boggerro. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Richardson are now residing at 109 Glenn St. Building Permits A. HONORED AT U. OF GEORGIA On Wednesday, May 20, Honors Day was observed at the Univer sity of Georgia in Athens. Two Newberrians were among those honored at the ceremony held in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Mrs. William E. Shealy, Jr., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Bedenbaugh of Silverstreet, was in the first five percent of her class. Mrs. Shealy is a rising sen ior and is majoring in mathe matics. David Lee Shealy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Shealy of New berry, was in the second five per cent of his class. Davis is a ris- j ing junior and in majoring in | physics. Also on the agenda for Honors Day w T as the 23rd annual Art Auction in the Fine Arts Audi torium. The staff included faculty advisors Laman Dodd, Dean of Art and Kenneth McKinnell. Stu dent Director was Nelson Giles, president of Art Students League of the Graduate school. Coordina tor from the School of Art were William E. Shealy, Jr., of New berry and Rita Ritchey. Your vote and Support for Alvin G. Hipp on Tuesday will be greatly appreciated. Mrs. Pat Mills Died Suddenly Mrs. Rozelle Graham Mills died suddenly Saturday night in the Mt. Pleasant section of the coun ty. She was 55 years of age. Mrs. Mills was born and reared in this county a daughter of the late Oscar and Lucy Hentz Gra ham. For a number of years she had made her home at 614 Glenn street in New'berry. She w-as an active member of Summer Mem orial Lutheran church, president of the Adult Sunday School class, and a member of the L. C. W. Mrs. Mills is survived by her husband, E. Pat Mills,, Newberry; twm sons, Edward and Charles, both of Newberry; one brother, John W. Graham, Pomaria; six sisters, Mrs. Claude Morris, Mrs. Ernest Cromer, Mrs. Perry Half acre, all of Newberry; Miss Mary Helen Graham, Mrs. John David Lominick, and Mrs. Johnny Grims- ley, all of Pomaria, and a number of nieces and nephews Funeral services were conducted Monday from Summer Memorial church with Rev. A. Kenneth Hew itt and Rev. H. J. C. Lindler con ducting the service. Burial follow ed in the Graham family cemetery. Active pallbearers were Boyd M. Mills, George Mills, Wyman Mills, Wayne Lominick, David Lominick and Cornelius Hipp. BAKERS ATTEND AM A MEETING Dr. and Mrs. Ralph P. Baker and children left Monday for San Francisco, where they will attend the annual convention of the Am erican Medical Association, and will spend some time sight-seeing. They expect to be gone about a month. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hair Layton, of Newberry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy Sue, and Mr. Gerald Wayne Davenport, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henley Lewie Davenport of Newberry, South Carolina.
