(Joe) Wilson, 81, of 801 Glenn St., died early Sunday morning at Newberry County Me morial Hospital after several days of illness. A native of Newberry County, son of the late Thomas J. and Sallie Epps Wilson, he lived most of his life in Newberry and was a postal employee until his retire ment a number of years ago. He was a member of Colony Lutheran Church and was a life member of the church council. His wife, Mrs. Jessie Dominick Wilson, died a number of years ago. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ada W. Kinard, Mrs. C. B. (Essie) Halfacre and Mrs. Hous ton (Thelma) Long of Newberry, and a brother, D. Clyde Wilson of Prosperity. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Colony Luth eran Church by Rev. H. A. Dunlap. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were T. J. Kinard, Thomas and Leroy Wilson, Wil liam Graham, Grady Lee Halfacre, Wilson Long, McSwain Dominick, and Tommy Longshore. Honorary escort was composed of H. L. Barker, J. R. Lominick, O. Q. Harmon, W. E. Epps, George I. Kinard, Leland Rikard, John Henry Shealy, Dr. W. W. King, members of the Colony Lutheran Church Council and former person nel of the post office department. signed up to participate in the 1964 Christmas Club Savings pro gram. Should these employees continue their Christmas Club for the full period, an amount of $54,- 600.00 would be received by them. Mrs. Gowan, 81, Rites Tuesday Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McKinney Gowan, 81, of 201 Piedmont St., widow of James Madison Gowan, died Sunday afternoon at a New berry hospital after an illness of several years. She was born and reared in the Pea Ridge section of Union Coun ty, a daughter of the late George W. and Mandy Fowler McKinney. She had lived in the Mollohon community 33 years, and was a member of the Gilead Baptist Church in Jonesville. Her husband died in 1942. Surviving are one son, J. B. Gowan of Newberry; one daugh ter, Miss Lola Gowan of Newber ry; one step-daughter, Mrs. Avery Bradley of Duncan; one brother, George L. McKinney of Newberry; one half-sister, Mrs. Ella Furr of Gaffney; one half-brother, Chas. McKinney of Gaffney; and five step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be con ducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Glenn Street Baptist Church by Rev. J. W. King Jr., Rev. Fay L. Lanford and Rev. Joseph W. Wal ker. Burial will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the Mc Swain Funeral Home until 2 p.m. Tuesday when it will be placed in the church. The family will be at the residence of the son, J. B. Gowan, on the Whitmire High way. Pallbearers will be Jack Mat thews, Claude Hamby, Frank Bartley, Herbert Stutts, A. L.
