For Development
Edwin P. Rogers, State Direc
tor of the Farmers Home Admin
istration announced today that his
agency had approved a loan of
$72,000 to 110 farmers and rural
residents of McCormick County
to construct recreational facilities.
The loan will enable the rural
group to develop and construct a
nine-hole golf course, club house
including facilities for a pro shop,
storage, lounge, sanitary facili
ties, equipment shed, two tennis
courts, and develop a picnic area. !
Mr. Rogers reports that in addi
tion to providing recreational fac
ilities, the loan will bring about a
shift of 75 acres of land not need
ed for crop production, and create
additional income for farm famil
ies in the area. It is also the opin
ion of many that the planned fac
ilities will greatly enhance the
opportunity for the county to at
tract new industry which will
supplement the income of all its
rural people. At the present time
there are no similar facilities in
McCormick county. Mr. Rogers
said “Loans of this type are ex
cellent examples of how the U. S.
Department of Agriculture co
operates with rural communities
to stimulate area redevelopment.”
The members of the non-profit
corporation will raise $11,000 to
contribute to the construction
cost, purchase of club house equip
ment, and for the first year’s op
erating expenses. The Farmers
Home Administration direct loan
is to be repaid over a period not
to exceed 40 years with 4 1-2 per
cent interest The club is managed
by nine Board of Directors with
Charlie C. Sanders, President;
Lee Burch, Vice President; and
G. William Bonnette, Secretary-
Treasurer.
Williams H. Carter, County
Supervisor for Newberry County,
whose office is located in the
Agricultural building’, states that
this type of loan is available to
organizations operating on a non
profit basis. Control of the organ
ization must be retained by farm
ers and rural residents; however,
the use of the facility need not be
so limited. Applicants must be un
able to obtain adequate funds from
other sources at rates and terms
which they could reasonably be ex
pected to fulfill.
Stoudemayer
Service Sunday
George Z. (Zack) Stoudemayer,
77, died Friday night at his resi
dence, Route 1, Little Mountain,
near Peak, after several days ill
ness.
Mr. Stoudemayer was born and
reared near Little Mountain, a
son of the late C. Cluford and Em
ma Summer Stoudemayer. He was
a member of Capers Chapel Meth
odist Church and a member of Po-
maria Lodge No. 151, A.F.M. at
Peak. He was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Alberta Eargle Stoudemayer; two
sons, George G., of Bennettsville
and Robert L., of Danville, Ky.;
two daughters, Mrs. Ernest L. Gi
vens of Charleston and Mrs. Wal
ter C. Putman, Jr. of Columbia;
and eight grandchildren. He was
the last surviving member of his
immediate family.
Funeral services were held Sun
day from Capers Chapel Church
with Rev. John P. Griffith con
ducting the service. Interment was
in the church cemetery.

onic lodge were pallbearers.

Mother Dies
Mrs. Vergie Clamp Gossett, 78,
widow of James M. Gossett, died
Sunday of last week at a Colum
bia hospital after a lengthy ill
ness.

She was born in Aiken County,
the daughter of S. A. and Mary
Jane Clamp, and lived most of
her life in Springfield. She was
a member of the Springfield Bap
tist Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Luther Brice of Newberry.
Graveside services were held on
Monday at Springfield cemetery
by Rev. William King.

CARNIVAL REPORT
The Boundary Street School
Harvest Carnival, held last Fri
day evening at the schoolhouse,
grossed $675.10, according to PTA
treasurer Mrs. Claud Summer. Al
though all bills have not been re
ceived, it is expected that expen
ses will not exceed $100.
About 600 persons were served
in the cafeteria, a project of the
sixth grade at Boundary. Other
Carnival features were snowballs,
fortune-telling, bakery-shop an,d a
number of games enjoyed by the
children.

Dies At Pomaria
James Franklin (Frank) Stuck,
68, died suddenly Tuesday at his
home near Pomaria.
He was born and reared in
Newberry County, son of the late
Robert I. and Lillie Miller Stuck.
He was a veteran of World War I
and a member of American Legion
Post 24, St. John’s Lutheran
Church;, the church council and the
ULCM.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Clara Ringer Stuck; a son, James
Robert Stuck of Pomaria; two
brothers, J. J. Stuck of Los An
geles, Calif., and R. Miller Stuck
of Chapin; a sister, Mrs. J. C. Ber-
iey of Pomaria; and two grand
children.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by McSwain Funeral
Home. The body is at the mortu
ary.

Dies Suddenly
Willie Oneal (Bub Jack) Rich
ardson, 66, died suddenly early
Tuesday morning at his home, 509
Main St., after several months of
declining health.
Born and reared in the Jolly
Street Section of Newberry Coun
ty ,he was the son of the late
John and Caroline Wicker Rich
ardson. He had lived in Newberry
a number of years, was a veteran
of World War I, member of the
American Legion and St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church. He retired from
Newberry Mills about IS months
ago.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Bon
nie Epps Richardson; three sons,
Sgt. John Richardson of Fort
Lewis, Wash., Sgt. D. C. Richard
son of Fort Benning, Ga. and Vir
gil Richardson of Newberry; a
daughter, Mrs. L. L. (Gladys) Col-
trane of Newberry; a brother,
Henry Richardson of Prosperity:
a sister, Mrs. Henry Rikard of
Newberry; 12 grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
