What About Girl Writing Notes To Boy?
THI^. NOTE:
TELL^> HIM THNT
X LIKE HIM..
a
THE WEEK'S LETTER: **1 am
a girl of fourteen in the ninth
grade, i like a boy who is sixteen.
1 wrote him a note and received
no response as to whether he likes
me or not. He is backward, how
ever, and doesn’t even say "hello”
to me. I like him very much.
Should I write him another note or
try to forget about him?”
OUR REPLY: If you have writ
ten the boy a note telling him that
you like him, there is no reason
for writing again to tell him the
same thing.
There is a much better way to
let someone know that you like
them than by writing notes. If
you like someone, let them see
that you do by a friendly attitude.
Always have a cheerful “hello”
and a smile and the person to
whom you speak or at whom you
smile will have no doubts that you
like them.
This is a much better approach
to the situation than note writing.
The girl who smiles and appears
friendly will be well liked by ev
eryone. The girl who writes notes
to boys gives the appearance of
“chasing” the boy to whom the
notes are written.
If he is going to respond at all,
the boy who is “shy” or, as you
put it, “backward,” will respond
to a smile and a cheerful greeting.
Sometimes it takes a little time,
so don’t expect one smile and a
single “hello” to work miracles.
But, keep at it—smile and speak
—and in a short time the whole
world will be smiling back at you.
Should it develop that this boy
is so shy or backward that he will
never respond, it will not be a
catastrophe. We think you’ll find
that a smile and a cheerful atti
tude toward life will win you more
friends than all the notes you
could write in a lifetime.

Is Lack of Trust Reason Girl Can’t Date?
MY PARENTS DO NOT
WANT ME TO DATE
AT THIS AcSrE...
THE WEEK'S LETTER: **I am
a girl of fourteen. The boy I am
going steady with is 17. My par
ents like him very much wad he
comes to my home quite frequent
ly. My problem is that my parents
do not want me to date at this
age. The same story 'all the other
kids do it’ isn’t working out too
well for me. I ask them if the rea
son they won’t let me date is be
cause they don’t trust me and
they say, 'No, this is not the rea
son.’ Could you give me your opin
ion on when a girl should start to
date?”
OUR REPLY: There is no defi
nite age one can quote and say
that a boy or girl who has at
tained it is old enough to date.
We are individuals, no two of us
alike, and some mature earlier
than others. Many teenagers who
believe themselves ready for “in
dependence” have not the slight
est notion that “independence”
brings new responsibilities.
It is the opinion of this column
that your parents are “fair” and
reasonable. They seem to put
forth no objection to this boy visit
ing you at your home. This is
more of a concession than many
fourteen-year-old girls receive.
The excuse that “all the kids do
it” does not work with your par
ents because they love you. You
are their responsibility. This isn’t
really much of an excuse, any
how. Some kids stay out late and
get into trouble in various ways—
kids no older than yourself. Do
you want to do these things just
because others do? Of course not.
We advise that you be content
with your present arrangement
Be frank and be honest with your
parents. Don’t continually ask
them “why” you can’t date. Con
sider their responsibility as par
ents as well as your own desire
to have dates. Earn their con
fidence in you by adopting a
“fair” attitude of your own about
the whole thing.

He gave them bread from Heaven to eat.

r Many who witnessed the mira-
* J de of the loaves and fishes re-
turned the following day to the
site by the Sea of Galilee. Find
ing Jesus gone, they searched and
found Him on the other side of
the sea. To their questions, Jesus
responded with the admonition
that they became followers, not
because they saw miracles, but
because they ate of the bread and
were filled.
If Christians today would not
waste their time seeking that
"which perisheth,” we too must
ask how we might work the works
of God.
As Jesus told those who came
to Capernaum, we must begin
with the realization that God
gave an eternal gift to the world
in the fulfillment of the life of
Jesus upon earth.
If we cherish this belief, we
shall find little difficulty in doing
the works of God.

“I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on
whom 1 will have compassion'*—Exodus 33:19
Because we know there is no
unrighteousness with God, we ex
pect forgiveness whenever we do
something which we know to be
wrong. We rely on God’s mercy.
While it is true that God has
mercy, have we the right to test
God’s patience?
Certainly, whenever we are
tempted to do something wrong,
God knows about this tempta
tion. Can we always expect to be
forgiven if we do this wrong thing
because we tell ourselves that we
have only to say we are "sorry”
and all is forgiven?
Tnataad, we should remember
that God is just Let us remember
that Jesus met the temptations of
life upon earth with determina
tion and single purpose.
We will never find a life free
of temptation—but we can find
the strength to do right to be
ri^ht and thus not so often find
^ .selves hoping for forgiveness.

Can’t find a spot in the
house for that “extra bath
room” you would like so
badly? This is a problem
facing many “growing”
fa/nilies, particularly ones
boasting one or more teen
age girls.
If your present bathroom
is large enough to accom
modate the right kind of
remodeling, you may be
able to solve the problem.
Best procedure, of course,
is to partition the room and
install complete facilities
on each aide of the room.
U there isn’t room to do this,
then consider that the teenage
girl, and mother, too, spend more
time using lavatory facilities and
mirror than other bathroom units.
