Page Four THE NEWBERRY SUN, NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 1963' Straight Talk by Let us view the issues in their proper perspective. We must not be like the near-sighted poultry specialist who tried to cross a rooster with a rooster. All he got was two cross roosters. Suppose that there were no such thing as a Negro and that the University of Mississippi had, in defiance of a Supreme Court edict .insisted on opening each class with a prayer. Would the Federals come in with 25,000 troops to keep Christ OUT as they did to keep a negro in? The over- >js a* % VK riding issue is not segregation vs. integration. Segregation was the smoke screen used in the most recent in vasion of States rights. Any in telligent person must ask: “If the Federal government can force a state to its knees at bayonet point under the guise of a Sup reme Court edict (legal or illegal) in regard to education, then in what field is a state sovereign? The answer is: nowhere. General Walker was seized by Federal troops illegally constitut ed; extradited from a sovereign state without the consent of the Governor of that state or his own consent; held incommunicado, un able even to talk to his lawyer; placed under bail not only exces sive but imposed under conditions physically impossible to meet and locked up in a prison for the criminally insane without being legally committed. General Edwin A. Walker now awaits a psychia tric examination to determine whether he is too crazy to be tried on charges which could im prison him for the rest of his life. W r ho Are The Conspirators? Fellow crackpots, let this be a warning. If the government can imprison a famous military hero because of his political views, Final... Reduced Prices on evening and day dresses, suits and coats, to make needed room for incoming Spring clothes. Carpenter’s what chance do little YOU have? The “super patriots” are being maneuvered into the position of conspirators. (Super patriot— that’s anybody who believed, prior to 7 P. M., October 22, 1962, that we should blockade Cuba.) General Walker went to Mississ ippi not to lead an insurrection but to dramatize the fact that he re luctantly carried out Eisenhower’s Little Rock invasion, and that the people of Mississippi were not standing alone in their opposition to federal tyranny. Walker was less guilty than the majority of participants, since he not only hurled no objects at any body but actually pleaded with the students to disband. Walker did not violate the Constitution. Kennedy did. Inciting to riot? Isn’t that what the Freedom Riders have long been doing, with the backing of the New Frontiersmen? In 1961 Robert Kennedy gave official san ction, encouragement and protect ion to Communist-supported Free dom Riders violating the law. Edwin Walker is a gentleman, a dedicated American, who puts service to God and country above service to self. Naturally, that makes him somewhat of an odd ball. Of course, Walker should never have gone to Oxford, but then John Kennedy should never have gone to some of the places he’s gone. The UNESCO General Confer ence Report of 1946 says:“We are assigned the positive function of building peace in the minds of men through science, education and culture. The Executive Secretary’s report gives us the belueprints for the development of what one may call a world brain, a world mind, or a world culture, which alone can be the basis of a world authority or a world government.” And now fellow world-brains, read back through that revealing quotation and assess where Christ ianity fits in. How long before those who insist on LIVING the Christianity which is denied by the atheistic United Nations, will be judged mentally sick? How long before those who insist on going forth into all the world and spreading the Gospel of Jesus i Christ will be persecuted by gov ernment ? A Columbia University profes sor recently stated that “Fifteen per cent of the over-principled population should be encapsulat ed.” This means locked up in a mental institution, perhaps to be rendered permanently harmless by a free lobotomy. A lobotomy is a permanent “don-care-pill” admin istered with a knife. And once you no longer have it up front, you can’t care whether your children are being deliberately surrendered to history’s most dia bolical God-hating tyranny. Are YOU mentally ill? To avoid] Siberia, USA, don’t fail to side 1 with the Administration. The ma jority is NEVER insane, regard less. Reminds me of the three la dies locked up in the nuthouse. One said, “I wish a man would come by and make love to me.” Another replied, “She ain’t gonna be with us long. She’s talk ing sense’.’ Do YOU have a member of the family, a friend whom you suspect is mentally ill? If there is anyone —anyone at all—whom you think needs mental health “treatment,” won’t you write Brother Bobby and ask for his Special Lay-Away plan? No obligation to you, and you may get lasting benefits. In the Walker case, let’s insist on a fair trial. Let’s give the At torney General of the United States a reasonable chance to show why he should not be fired for violations of General Walker’s civil rights, for unconstitutional invasion. Our leaders are telling the Com munists: “You are not our ene mies .unless you plan momentar ily to fire missiles at us from 90 miles away. So send your missiles back to Russia or to East Germ any, and we can be friends again. We’ll let the United Nations set tle the Cuban situation.” That’s like getting Jack the Ripper to baby-sit. Obviously, our answer to the Cuban problem is to make Cuba our 51st state. Then we can invade her. When the United Nations “settles” Cuba, the international ists will exclaim: “See what the United Nations can do? The U. S. has nothing to fear from the Dis armament Bill (87-297) which Congress passed calling for turn ing over all our defenses—army, navy, air force, missiles and men to the United Nations by 1971.” Letting the Communist and Cannibal Club “settle” the Cuban mess is driving another nail into the coffin of freedom. The UN is Communist-oriented. The United Nations cannot win for us, because the United Nations is the enemy. Communism must die if freedom is to live—and vice versa—in Cuba and everywhere else.
