THE NEWBERRY SUN, NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA Music There Of Fine Arts Club The December meeting of the Newberry Fine Arts Club was held at the lovely home of Mrs. Hart Jordan. The rooms of the home •were attractively decorated in the Christmas tradition. » JDeUdons refreshments were served the members from the beautifully appointed dining ta ble. Mrs. Pat Mitchell, mother of Mrs. Jordan, poured eoffee. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Dave Sokevitz presided dur ing the meeting. Mrs. Warren Cousins, program chairman, in troduced the program which was on "The Messiah” by Handel. She said that it took Handel onV 24 days to compose this wonderful and well-known oratorio. The ora torio was first performed at Dub lin, Ireland, on April 13, 1742. The following year it was performed -jm London, England, and thereaf ter it became an annual event. The program was as follows: “Behold a Virgin Shall Conceive and Bear a Son”, “O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings To Zion”, nrd “For Unto Us a Child is Born”, all by recording. “How Beautiful A.re The Feet of Them” sung by Mrs. Hart Jordan and ac companied by Mrs. Dave Sokevitz on the piano, “and the Angel Said Unto Them”, “And Lo! The An gel of the Lord Came Upon Them”, “And suddenly There Was With the Angel” sung by Mrs. Dave Sokevitz accompanied by Mrs. Carolyn Savko on the piano. “Glorv to God” by recording. “Then Shall The Eyes of The Bind be Opened”, “He Shall Feed His Flock” sung by Mrs. Warren Cousins accompanied by Mrs. Dave Sokevitz on the organ. “Come Un to Him” sung by Mrs. Hart Jor dan accompanied by Mrs. Sokevitz on the organ. “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth” sung by Mrs. Sokevitz accompanied by Mrs. Savko on the piano. “Hallelejah Chorus” by recording.
