East then led a low heart to the
jack on the board, sluffed her two
losing clubs on the ace and king
of spades and then lays down her
remaining eight hearts, easily
making contract.
COMMENT: North should have
overtaken souths lead and re
turned her ace of clubs for a
setting trick.
Helen’s Favorite:
Shrimp Newberg Sauce
(Makes 1 quart)
2 cans condensed frozen cream
of shrimp soup 6-ounce
1 can sliced mushrooms
2 5-ounce cans shrimps
Clean and devein drained
shrimp. Combine with shrimp
soup, mushrooms and liquid.
Heat over boiling water until
thawed and heated. Serve over
baked fish sticks or squares or
with noodle loaf.

Rally ’Round The Punch Bowl
For your holiday open house nothing will raise the spirits and
warm the heart more than a “party rally ’round the punch
bowl.” The theme for your party can take its name from an out
standing wine-punch gaining wide popularity throughout the
country. Pink Gold punch, made of a brilliant, lively carbonated
Roselle wine, with maraschino cherries, poured over a star ice
mold, can set the stage for your own festival of food gifts for
guests this season.
Pink Gold Punch Bowl
2 bottles Pink Gold Star Ice Mold

To make star mold pour about Vi inch water into bottom of
mold. Freeze firm, arrange maraschino cherries around edge of
mold, pour in small amount of water, being careful not to dis
turb cherries. Fre«ze firm. Fill mold with water and freeze firm.
Unmold just before serving into punch bowl with cherry side up.
Pour Pink Gold over ice mold just before serving. Serves 12.
Good companions with Pink Gold punch are cheese and crack
ers, cakes and cookies, nuts or thin cut sandwiches. One idea:

1 cup confectioners sugar wafers (12 oz. package
Vb cup Widmer Neapolitan wafers)
Sherry or Lake Niagara 1 cup broken pecans
Wine % cup confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons light com
syrup
Sift cocoa and 1 cup confectioners sugar. Stir in wine com
bined with light corn syrup. Add vanilla wafers and nuts and
mix thoroughly. Roll the mixture into small balls and dredge
with the % cup confectioners sugar. Makes 40.

THE WEEK’S LETTER: “I am
nearly thirteen, and I am not al
lowed to wear lipstick. Twice, on
very special occasions, I was al
lowed just a little. Don’t you think
that I am old enough now? I have
been wearing nylons for quite a
while, and I never abused the
privilege.”

Madison Twp., N. J., have re
modeled their • modest ranch
house into a modern, 18-room
home and clinic/
Two years ago the children
had outgrown the living quar
ters and the doctor needed more
room on the office level. Mrs.
Ambrosio and the three chil
dren were relegated to the three
bedrooms and the tiny kitchen.
Chose Electric Heat
The Ambrosios then decided
to add a new waiting room and
make the old one into an ex
amination room. Because of the
ease of installation, electric heat
was chosen for the addition.
The doctor next comman
deered the entire basement for
new therapy, x-ray and emer
gency rooms. To give his family

The Ambrosios chose electric

lowing the hector’s experiences

he was able to keep his waiting
room at normal temperatures
and at the same time have the
neighboring examination rooms
considerably warmer.

out the house had always been
a source of irritation to Mrs.
Ambrosio.
Wanted Good Lighting
“The doctor needs good light
ing, so do the children,” she

necessary. Usually, a thirteen-
year-old doesn’t need lipstick-
even on special occasions. She
doesn’t need rouge to make her
cheeks rosy or lipstick to color
her lips.
Lipstick, nylons, high heels;
these are considered “grown-up”
items. Yet, did you ever stop to
consider that most women use cos
metics because they desire to keep
themselves looking “young”?
Properly used, cosmetics im
prove a woman’s appearance.
There are some women, however
who need to use lipstick or rouge
sparingly. These women have a
“natural” beauty and they are
most envied by their fellow fe
males who have to do a lot of
“fixing up” to look their best.
Teenagers should go easy on
the make-up and be careful never
to use more lipstick or rouge than
is necessary. Quite often a girl
of real natural beauty will make
herself less attractive by over
doing the “painted lips and
painted eyes” routine.
The young teenager should seek
the advice of mother, an older
friend, or a beautician, before
using make-up just because every
one else does.
Many people wear glasses, but
few do it just to be in style. By
the same token, the girl who
doesn’t need lipstick and rouge
shouldn’t want to wear them just
because everyone else does.

an all-electric kitchen,” says
Mrs. Ambrosio. “We sometimes
entertain as many as 20 people
for dinner and I couldn’t think
of doing without my electric
double oven. Even with every
thing going it’s cool in the
kitchen and there’s no smoke or
fr nes to dirty up the house.”-

ator and a matching food freezer
in the kitchen. Mrs. Ambrosio’s
shopping chores have been sub
stantially reduced.
Other convenience features in
the kitchen are an automaticr
dishwasher and a generous sup
ply of easy-access outlets for a
variety of work-saving electric
housewares.
Basic building materials were
carefully selected to contribute
to the comfort and efficiency of
all-e] ectric living. For new roof
ing, the Ambrosios chose white
asphalt shingles because of their
attractive appearance and their
heat-reflective quality.
Since an important feature of-
electrically heated homes is
proper insulation, the Ambrosio
house is completely insulated
with batts and blankets of min
eral wool, which keep the heat
inside during cold weather and
outside it’s hct.
