LUCK
BY HELEN HALE
N OURISHING breakfasts are a
necessity for everyone in the
family if the morning’s work is to
get done properly. Homemakers,
mindful of this fact, try to plan
nourishing and tempting enough
menus to keep the family eating
properly.
Waffles, pancakes, French toast
and fritters are favorites with
everyone and one of the main rea
sons for this is the fact they’re
served with corn syrup, a good
source of carbohydrate, an easily
absorbed and available source of
energy.
If you’ve confined yams just to
your holiday eating, then try them
Helen’s Favorite:
Cranberry Citrus Punch
(Makes 1 gallon)
2% cups simple syrup
3 pints cranberry juice
3 cups strained orange juice
IVt cups strained lemon juice
3 cups carbonated water
1 pint lemon sherbet, if desired
Stir all ingredients until well
mixed, except for sherbet. Chill
thoroughly. Pour onto an ice
ring made in ring mold, into
punch bowl. Garnish with
scoops of sherbet.
as part of the regular menu, es
pecially at times when you’re
looking for new mealtime interest.
Years of research have gone into
the making of the present day
yam to make it stringless as well
as to give it moist textile and cut
down on the cooking time.
Spices with long, slow cooking
gives meats, what is often termed
‘‘old-fashioned” flavor because so
many cuts are prepared quickly
these day3. Why not fill the house
with savory cooking like Danish
meat balls which take mace as a
spice and a succulent Swiss steak
made delicious with a bit of chili
powder and a bay leaf or two?

Frank Sinatra manages to make
one forget his “rat-pack” reputa
tion when he opens those fantastic
vocal chords . . . He’s still one
of the greatest and little doubt
about it j. . . The boy gets better
with age, like wine and steak . . .
At any rate, Frankie’s latest Capi
tol album, ‘‘Point of No Return”
te one of his best and one of the
most nostalgic and memorable
albums ever recorded by Capitol
. . . He is backed by his old-time
friend and arranger. Axel Stor-
dahl, with whom he made his
biggest hits.
The album, according to Capi
tol, represents the “bittersweet
memory of tender moments to
which there is just no return” . . .
Frankie gives the songs of yester
year a poignant twist that will
soothe the lonely and subdue the
gay ... He includes in his reper
toire, “September Song,” “I’ll
Remember April,” “I’ll See You
Again,” “Somewhere Along the
Way,” “These Foolish Things,”
“I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Memories
of You” and “It’s a Blue World.”
Love birds and the month
of June go well together.
Many Spring-time affairs end
in June with that long walk
down the aisle and those two
little words, "I do.**
But one affair seems to go
on and on. It's not actually
a romance, but it is the real
thing. It's the sociable and
satisfying relationship be
tween folks m our town and
the established local firms
with which they do business.
It’s an affair of long stand
ing and we think it safe to
predict that it will last. Look
at the "established "
marker on some of the stores
and you’ll see bow long they
have been serving local citi
zens.
They must be good to last
so long!
