Offering 33 models in four separate categories—each aimed at a specific segment of the mar ket—-the 1963 cars represent faith in a continued strong national ec onomy by Chevrolet, which is al readjJ on its way to setting an all- time industry sales record for 1962. Taking the four members of the Chevrolet family one at a time: REGULAR CHEVROLETS: the traditional big car emphasis upon luxurious transportation is con tinued in the 1963 regular Chev- rolets, offered in 13 models in the Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne ser ies. There is a sleek, longer look with all-new styling. Straight windshield pillars improve access for driver and passengers. The new front grille of anodized alum inum extends the full width of the vehicle, while a depressed cen ter area adds new interest to the broad rear deck lid. Smooth, straight line styling gives the side of the new Chevro lets a flowing look of motion. A horizontal line highlights the sculpture of the side, extending from the foremost point of the front fender to the extended point of the rear fender. Lower, a slen der accent rib from midway down the front fender skims the top o; r the rear wheel and carries through to- the rear bumper. Throughout the line, ventilatec rocker panels provide a new meas ure of protection from corrosion Doorlocks are improved to enhance passenger safety. The Impala sport sedan has a fleet, new roofline and an optional vinyl top is available for the Im pala sport coupe. Fifteen solid colors and 11 two-tone combina tions are available in the regular Chevrolets. Interiors of the cars are entirely new and more luxur ious for 1963. CHEVY II—In its 2nd year on the market, Chevy II continues the basic styling of the previous mod el with new exterior and interior appointments. There are ten mod els in three series. For 1963, Chevy II offers Super Sport options on its Nova 400 Sport coups and convertible, fea turing bucket seats and all-vinyl interiors. Fifteen solid colors and eleven two-tone combinations are available on -Chevy II models. Mechanically, the Chevy II has self-adjusting brakes and Delco- tron generators. Four- and six- .cylinder engines again are offered with minor improvements. Longer- life mufflers are standard on all models. Radios are completely transistorizzed. CORVAIR.—Chevrolet’s distinc tive small car enters its fourth year on the market with an ever growing following among those who want a sports car feel in a less expensive car. There are 8 models of Corvair, ranging in variety from the Monza Spyder convertible to two models of the popular Corvair Greenbriar sports wagon. Fifteen solid colors plus two-tone combinations are of fered. Mechanically, Corvair has self- adjusting brakes, more durable exhaust system and changes in front suspension and steering link age. Engines have numerous im provements and radios are transis torized. Boys In Service FRANKFURT, Germany (AHT XC)—Army PFC O i l A. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Johnson, Route 1, Silverstreet. re cently was awarded the Good Con duct Medal while : erving with the 109th Military Police Platoon in Germany. Johnson was awarded the medal i° ^ecognigtion of his exemplary jnduct, efficiency and fidelity as a soldier in the active Federal military service. The 24-year-old soldier entered the Army in September 1960 and received basic combat training at Fort Jackson. He arrived overseas in February 1961. Johnson attended Newberry High School. FT. RICHARDSON, Alaska, — (AHTNC)—Army Sgt. Delmas C. Richardson, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie O. Richardson, 509 Main St., recently reenlisted for three years in the Regular Army while serving as a military police man in the Military Police Com pany at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He arrived in Alaska on this tour of duty in May 1959. He attended Newberry High School. His wife, Betty, is with him in Alaska. production sports car is redesign ed and re-engineered for the first time. For the first time, Corvette of fers optional power steering, pow er brakes and air-conditioning for the customer who wants a sports car but also wishes to retain the driving conveniences to which he has become accustomed. Especially dramatic are the retractable headlights which ro tate up from the airfoil-shaped front end at the touch of a switch by the driver. Both Corvette models are known as the “Sting Ray”. Their sleek, areodynamic fibreglass bodies will be available in seven high-quality acrylic lacquer finishes. The University offered a two- year curriculum in teacher edu cation from its opening in 1899 until July, 1921, when legislative enactment gave it the status of Northern Illinois State Teachers College and empowered it to award the degree of Bachelor of Education. In 1943 the degree title was changed to Bachelor of Sci ence in Education. In January, 1951, the Teachers College Board authorized offering graduate work leading to the degree of Master of Science in Education. On July 1, 1955, as a result of action by the state legislature, the name of the college was changed to Northern Illinois State College. Hie same legislative action au thorized Northern to broaden its services by offering academic work in several areas other than teacher education. In July, 1955, the Board granted permission for Northern to add curricula leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. The seventieth General Assem bly took action to change the name to Northern Illinois Univer sity, effective July 1, 1957. Since that time authority has been giv en to offer five-year programs leading to the degrees: Master of Arts, Master of Science, «md Master of Music, and the six- year program leading to the Cer tificate of Advanced Study or in the case of art majors to the Mas ter of Fine Arts. The University is organized into four colleges and a Graduate School. The coUeges are College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Col lege of Education, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and CoUege of Business (established in 1961). This summer, the University will initiate doctoral degree pro grams in four areas — English, history, education, and business education.
