Like other institutes founded at
the turn of the century, Drexel
rapidly affected changes in cri
teria for admission, standards of
accomplishment and curricular
content which led to collegiate
status for its work. The first
bachelor’s degrees were granted
in engineering in 1915, in home
economics in 1919, and in business
administration in 1926.
Today, the Institute consists of
a College of Engineering, A Col
lege of Business Administration,
and a College of Home Econom
ics which grants bachelor’s and
master’s degrees; a Graduate
School of Library Science, which
conducts a one-year-full-time
course and a three-year part time
course, each leading to a master’s
degree; and an Evening College
and Diploma School offering cur
ricula in architecture, engineer
ing, business and industrial ad
ministration, mathematics, phy
sics, and chemistry leading after
eight years of evening study to the
Bachelor of Science. Total enroll
ment is in excess of 8,200, with
Evening College students approx
imating 2,800. Dr. James Creese
is the Institute’s president.
A notable feature at Drexel is
the plan of cooperative education,
in operation since 1919, under
which business and industrial or
ganizations cooperate with the
Institute by enabling students to
acquire practical experience re
lated to college studies through
alternating periods of service in
their organizations. Each year
some five hundred firms located
in fourteen states and the District
of Columbia employ Drexel stu
dents on cooperative assignments.
Cooperative educ-tlcu is required
of engineering students and is
optional for those enrolled in
home economics and business
administration curricula.
Drexel Institute of Technology
is a member of the Association
of r American Colleges, the Asso
ciation of Urban Universities, the
American Council on Education,
and the Middle States Association
of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Hove Describes
New Equipment
J. M. Hove of Newberry Cream
ery has completed a comprehensive
training session on the new De-
Laval milking system. The session
was held at Columbia on June 13.
“This new milking system,”
says Mr. Hove, “is really going
to give dairymen impressive time
savings and bring herds up to
their full profit and production
potentials. I’ve seen the results of
its use and there’s no doubt that
it provides the fastest, cleanest
and healthiest milking possible. It
even eliminates hand stripping on
all but the slowest milking cows
and really gets all the residual
milk.”
Mr. Hove points out that the
new system is applicable to any
installation—pipeline, suspended,
floor-type and cow-to-can. There
has been no increase in price
over previous equipment.
Mr. Hove is now scheduling
free trial demonstrations of the
new milker.
