Parrott Dies
After llhess
Bennie Eugene Parrott, 82 of
Rt. 1, Newberry, died Friday
morning at a local hospital after
several years of declining health.
He was born and reared in Fair-
field County, a son of the late
Robert and Nancy Singley Par
rott. He was a farmer and was
employed by J. P. Stevens Com
pany in Whitmire for many years
until his retirement. He had lived
at Rt. 2, Prosperity for nine years
before moving to Route 1, New
berry. He was a member of Can
non’s Creek ARP Mission Church.
He was married twice, first to
Mrs. Mandy Richardson Parrott,
who died in 1940.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ka
tie Sligh Bouknight Parrott; a
son, Jimmy Leroy Parrott of the
home; two daughters, Mrs. Car
rie P. Harmon of Rt. 1, Newberry
and Mrs. Rosa Lee Neal of Whit
mire; a stepson, James Bouknight
of Clinton; a stepdaughter, Mrs.
Lillie Long of the home; a bro
ther, John Parrott of Pomaria; 8
grandchildren, 13 great - grand
children and a step grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted
Saturday at Enoree Baptist
Church by Rev. Ray Timmerman
and Dr. Thomas F. Suber. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Grandsons ware pallbearers.

Mrs. Wessinger
Service Monday
Mrs. Mary Shealy Wessinger,
88, died Friday night at her home
near Chapin after a lingering ill
ness.
She was born in Newberry Coun
ty, August 2, 1873, a daughter
of the late James E. and Elvira
Boland Shealy. She was the wi
dow of Ed. F. Wessinger, who
died in 1937.
Mrs. Wessinger was a member
of St. Thomas Lutheran Church,
the Ladies Aid Society and the
United Lutheran Church Women.
Survivors include two daugh
ters, Mrs. D. B. Lindler and Mrs.
Julia W. Derrick of Chapin; Three
sons, Lester Wessinger of Spar- j
tanburg, Ira F. Wessinger of
Washington, D. C. and James E.
Wessinger of Irmo; two sisters,
Mrs. Corrie Hiller of Newberry
and Mrs. T. Jonas Slice of Cha
pin; three brothers, J. Ben Shealy
of Columbia, Daniel Shealy of
Chapin and B. C. Shealy of New
berry; 30 grandchildren; 65 great
grandchildren, and six great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted
at 3 p. m. Monday from St. Thom
as Lutheran Church near Chapin
by her pastor, the Rev. John W.
Zeigler. Interment was in the
church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grand
sons. Honorary pallbearers were
members of the St. Thomas Church
Council.

Pvt. John W. Fulmer, 22, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey B. Fulmer,
Route 1, Prosperity, recently par
ticipated in Exercise Dark Sky, a
logistics training maneuver at
Camp Wallace, Va.
He is a 1958 graduate of Pros
perity high school.
Claude L. Ruff
Dies Suddenly
Claude Leon (Major) Ruff, 73,
died suddenly Sunday at his home
on route 2 in the St. Phillips Sec
tion of the county. \
Mr. Ruff was born and reared
in the St. Phillips section, a son
of the late Walter Franklin and
Mary Leitzsey Ruff. He was a
farmer and a member of St. Phil
lips Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy
E. Stone Ruff; two sons, Claude
Leon Ruff, Jr. *pt Savannah, Ga.,
and Walter Frifaklln Ruff of
Newberry; one daughter, Miss
Carolyn Ruff of Columbia; one
brother, H. H. Ruff of Newberry.
Funeral services were conducted
Monday at St. Phillips Lutheran
Church by the Rev. Clarence L.
Richardson. Interment was in the
church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were John D.
Setzler, Duane Gilliam, David Lu
ther Ruff, David Kibler, John Da
vid Ruff and Carroll Counts.
Spearman Dies
In Columbia
Eugene H. Spearman, 68, of
3401 Brookwood Court, Columbia,
died last Monday at the Veterans
Hospital after several years ill
ness.
Funeral services were conducted
Tuesday from Oaklawn Chapel by j
his pastor, Dr. E. Archie Ellis,
and interment was in Mt. Zion
Baptist churchyard, Silverstreet,
conducted by Rev. J. R. McKit-
trick.
Mr. Spearman was born in
Newberry, son of the late John
R. Spearman and Ella Longshore
Spearman. He had lived in Col
umbia for the past ten years. He
had served two terms as supervi
sor for Newberry County.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Alice Norwood Spearman;
one son, Eugene H. Spearman of
Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Feli
cia Spearman of Columbia; and
two nephews, J. A. Knight of Col
umbia and Alan W. Spearman of j
Birmingham, Ala.
