COOK
of Conway
Democratic
Candidate
For
GOVERNOR
Of
South Carolina
In the
June 12 Primary
I would like to make known to
the public my platform, and in
tentions.
If I am elected your Governor,
I will legalize horse racing, as
well as dog racing in the State
of South Carolina, and my reason I
for this is, that it will give at
least three (3,000) thousand peo
ple employment in this particular
kind of project, and it will mean
hundreds of thousands of dollars
in revenue for the State, as well
as lighten the burden of taxes on
each individual tax payer, and
there are . wealthy people waiting
to finance this two million dollar
project, and I do not see why we
should let all that revenue go
down the drain, as you all know
we are at the present time paying
more and getting less.
Furthermore the value of prop
erty and real estate in the State
as a whole, will increase in value,
and with this tremendous amount
of revenue we can afford to pay
our school teachers more money,
which we know they deserve.
I am also in favor of cocktail
lounges in the State of South
Carolina, my reason being in fa
vor of open bars, it will eliminate
crimes, muggings and hold-ups
in some cases murder, and by
this, people can go into an open
lounge and select his choice.
I am not in favor of any liquor
or alcoholic beverages whatsoever,
but this will practically put the
poison boot-legger out of business,
so if we have to have alcoholic
beverages, let's have it in a more
respectable manner, therefore I
would like to prove my good citi
zenship, and responsibility to my
home, community and State by
giving my unlimited time and sin
cere effort to making the State
of South Carolina a law-abiding
State and an example of good
government on a State wide level.
I shall devote all my unlimited
time if I am elected your Govern
or to fulfilling the duties of the
office of Governor, and if elected
I will make sore that all citizens
of the State of South Carolina re
ceive equal protection of our laws
and constitutional rights, on our
highways and our Courts.
If all you good citizens of this
County and the State alike agree
with me on my platform, please
drop me a card. It is not necessary
for your signature to appear on
the card unless you desire to do
so.
We are in competition with oth
er states for the services of our
talenter* youth. It is a shame that
other states provide opportunities
in which we are lacking. We spent
the money to educate our youth
who in turn must leave to seek
opportunities elsewhere. Money
flowing freely in our state by the
luring of tourists and industry
can bring about an economic rise
which in turn would provide op
portunities for our young people.
As you all know South Carolina
is one of the very few states which
haa never paid a bonus to their
deserving World War II veterans.
It seems that no money haa ever
been available, or little action tak
en. It is my intention through re
sults of my offered plan, if suc
cessful, to make it possible for the
State of South Carolina to carry
oat an obligation which is long
overdue.
Moreover, if I am elected your
Governor, I will see to it that ev
ery state employee gets a raise
in salary, as we all know they
deserve. Also higher benefits for
our aged.
If you are interested
in my platform pass
this along to a friend.
It will be appreciated.

MEDITORIAL: The insepara
bility of mind and body is seen
daily in my practice. Hardly an
illness is free from the mutual
effects. Observations over the
years have shown the mind to be
the more influential of the two
since most reactions to illness-
depend on the patient’s basic
make-up or personality. To some
extent, a person’s susceptability
to certain diseases can be pre
dicted f rom his personality.
It has been shown that similar
personalities which respond to-
specific life situations in the same
fashion are more likely to have
the same diseases. For example,
those who are excitable and ag
gressive are more susceptible to
heart disease. These persons are
always ready to do battle, and to
maintain a state of constant readi-
ness, the body secretes adrenalin
and other bormooes. It is believed
that over a period of years, this
oversecretkm of adrenalin haa am
