The Newberry County Board of
Registration’s Office will be op
ened on the second floor of the
New Courthouse from ' Tuesday,
May 1st, 1962 up to and through
Saturday, May 12, 1962. The hours
will be courthouse hours.
' The members of the Board of
Registration will be at the follow
ing places:
April 20, Friday, 9:00 a. m. to
12:00 noon, Little Mountain at
Dr. Sease’s old office.
April 20, Friday, 1:30 to 5:00
p.m.. Prosperity at W. B. Wick

April 24, Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to

Every voter expecting to vote
in the primary election to be held
June 12, 1962 will be required to
have a registration certificate for
this election.
Voters who already have elec
tion certificates dated September
1957, or after that date, are not
required to get new certificates.
If any voter’s certificate hereto
fore issued has been lost, mislaid
or destroyed, that voter should get
a duplicate registration certifi
cate.
A voter of any County in South
Carolina, other than Newberry
County, registered in the other
County, should register in Newber’-
ry County to be entitled to vote.
If a voter has moved from his
former voting precinct, he or she
should apply to the Board for a
transfer to his new voting pre
cinct.

FROM BURNS
Mrs. Jake R. Wise was reported
to be resting comfortably and re
covering from burns received when
the robe she was wearing caught
fire from an electric range at her
home Sunday. She was not too
seriously burned.
Her husband, Jake, Wise, burn
ed his hands in an attempt to ex
tinguish the flames, He ,too, is
recovering satisfactorily.

Campaign For
Mental Health
Flavel Scott Elliott, Sr., Asso
ciate Professor of English, New
berry College, has been named
Newberry County Chairman for
the Bell Ringer Campaign for
Mental Health to be conducted
throughout the state during the
month of May. The announcement
of Professor Elliott’s appointment
was made by Luther Z. Barnett of
Charleston, state Bell Ringer
Chairman for the South Carolina
Mental Health Association and
Mrs. Meredith Harmon, president
of the Newberry Mental Health
Chapter.
A native of New Britain, Conn-
ecticutt, Mr. Elliott is a graduate
of Dartmouth College, and did
graduate work at Harvard Uni
versity, University of Chicago,
University of North Carolina and
Duke University.
Active in civic and community
affairs, Mr. Elliott is a Director
of the Newberry Civitan Club, sec
retary of Amity Masonic Lodge
No. 87 A.F.M., member of Ameri
can Legion Post 24, Newberry
Civic League, and past president
of Philemon Waters Chapter of
the Sons of the American Revolu
tion, State Registrar of the S. C.
Society of the S.A.R., and Vice
President of the Newberry Coun
ty Mental Health Association.
While at Dartmouth College, Mr.
Elliott was awarded the Wood
bury Prize Scholarship; was edi
tor of College and Community, a
publication of Asheville College,
Asheville, North Carolina for two
years; and was chairman of the
Education Committee at Central
Methodist Church, Newberry, for
eight years. He served in the U. S.
Army in World War II for eigh
teen mouths, 1945-46. He is mar
ried to the former Rosalie Conn
of Kosiuske, Misissippi, and they
have one son, Flavel Scott Elliott.

In observance of Holy Week,
the Women of St. Monica’s are
presenting their annual Candle
light services, Holy Wednesday,
April 18th at 7:00 p.m. at St.
Monica’s Episcopal Church.
This service will depict Christ
as the Light of the World prior
to His Crucifixion at Calvary. The
Light of Christ is even brighter
the service portrays on the road
to Calvary.

EGG HUNT FOR
EPTING SUNDAY SCHOOL
The annual Easter Egg Hunt
for the children of the Epting Me
morial Methodist Church Sunday
School will be held on Saturday
afternoon at 3 o’clock. All chil
dren through the Junior age group
are asked to meet at the church
at the appointed hour where they
will be met by the members of the
Mary Addison Circle of the church
who will supervise all activities
and furnish favors and refresh
ments to all. Each child is request
ed to bring three eggs.
