DECEMBER DARK
POSES HAZARD
TO MOTORISTS
December is the
most darkness, . a
amount of seasonal travel, and of
tentimes a month with hazardous
driving caused by foul weather, ac
cording to the State Highway De
partment offering safety remind
ers to South Carolina motorists.
Not only are the hours troia
dusk to dawn extended, the De-r
partment pointed out, but ofteix
even in daylight hours, low ceil
ings, fog, snow, ice or rain reduces
visibility and adds hazards.
It is extremely important, the
Department suggested, that mo
torists check* their vehicles for
clear visibility in all directions.
Windshields, especially, should be
checked. k Wiper arm blades and
defrosters should clear away pre
cipitation, road splash and fog-
8Ting.
Motorists should make sure all
their vehicle lights are working
properly. Lights should be turned ,
on in the daytime when conditions
might be safer by their use.
