OF NEWBERRY

Fellow Citizens and Friends of Newberry:
I am offering you my services as one of your Coun-
cilmen for the next two years.
I ?m doing so because I am deeply interested in the
welfare of our community.
In offering for a position on council, I would indeed
be ungrateful if I did not first express to each of you
who have voted for me, and elected me to be your
Mayor for two years and as one of your aldermen for
16 years.
I think everyone offering for one of the offices of
council should have a platform.
I am running my own race. I am not lined up with
any clique or club, and will not be hereafter. If.electecf
one of your aldermen, I promise to weigh every issue
for what it is worth and not be too hasty on any issue.
I am broad-minded, open-minded and civic minded, and
at all times, I am wide open for advic£. I will not bow
to anyone at anytime. I am no rubber stamp bouncing

1. I r.m in favor of purchasing all the necessary sup
plies from our local merchants on competitive bids
where the amount involved is justifiable.
2. I vvil cooperate with civic and service organiza
tions worx i ug toward the spiritual and moral develop
ment of our youth.
3. I will follow policies liberal enough in nature to be
progressive yet conservative enough to be sound.
4. I will study and review existing policies and ord
inances and with council follow up with any modifi
cation indicated to bring them up to date.
5. I will be available at all times to the people of
Newberry and to welcome all constructive suggestions
and criticisms.
6. I will work with the other councilmen you elect
as long as I believe they are right; if not, I will vote
my own convictions at all times.
Upon these six planks do I base my plea for Aider-
man of Ward 5 election. If elected, I promise to dis
charge the duties to the best of my ability ,and to be
impartial in making the decisions with which I will be
faced.
Anyone wiio tries to do anything worthwhile makes
mistakes. I am no exception. I have made them too.
But I have profited from them. Fortunately they have
given me the experience with which to cope with prob
lems to be encountered in municipal administration.
I would like to point out that there is nothing I value
more than the many, many friends and friendships I
enjoy. They mean more to me than anything else in
the world.
In closing I would like to congratulate all the can
didates on the nice way they have conducted their race
and their clean contest.
If elected to council, I will cast my ballot at all
times for the city and the people w r ho live in the city.
There is no one who lives here who wants to see New
berry grow r and prosper more than I do.
On Tuesday, August 22nd, please come out and vote.
Regardless of how T you cast your ballot, remember it
is one of the few' privileges that we have left, so come
on out and vote for someone.
Should you see fit to vote for me for Alderman Ward
5, I shall consider it my sacred duty to work for your
interest. I will sincerely appreciate your vote as much
as anyone could, and if elected, I will w'ork to safe
guard your interests.

Meetings Are
Scheduled For
Dairy Farmers
P. T. Harris, president, along
with the directors of the Newber
ry Cooperative Breeding Associa
tion have scheduled a series of im
portant barn meetings to be held
next week. The purpose of this
series of meetings is to help dairy
farmers evaluate their breeding
program. Also dairy farmers who
attend will be instructed on how
to plan a breeding program that
will insure higher producing heif
ers for herd replacements.
C. R. “Hap” Houston, from No-
ba will conduct this series of meet
ings. “Hap” is known through
dairy circles as one of the top
“cow-men” in the country. We
feel certain he will make these
meetings entertaining as well as
helpful to all dairy farmers who
attend.
