Mrs. Courtney
Rites Saturday
Mrs. Annie Miller Courtney,
75, died late Wednesday night at a
Columbia hospital after several
years of declining health.
Mrs. Courtney was born and
; reared in Saluda County and was
the daughter of the late D. B.
and Martha McCarty Miller. For
a number of years she made her
home in Newberry, where she was
employed by the Oakland plant of
Kendall Mills. She retired nine
years ago. Mrs. Courtney was a
member of Hunt Memorial Bap
tist Church.
She is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Ocie Kinney, Newberry; and
Mrs. Ethel Miller, Batesburg;
three brothers, S. B. Miller and F.
L. Miller, both of Newberry, and
L. K. Miller, Batesburg, and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday at 11 a.m. from Hunt Me
morial Baptist Chui’ch with Rev.
D. W. Satterfield conducting the
service. Burial was in Rosemont
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James
King, E. G. Longshore, Irby Lee
Longshore, Douglas Mills, Edward
Williams and W. R. Elrod.
Honorary escort was composed
of deacons of Hunt Memorial Bap
tist Church, A. N. Bowen, A. Q.
Hatfield, Harold Cook, W. E. Hol-
sonback, Arthur Cochcroft, M. E.
Smith, Earl Lockaby, Donald Sat
terfield and Grady Hughy.
Flower attendants included Mrs.
Peggy King, Mrs. Lucile Coch
croft, Mrs. Leona Abrams, Mrs.
Nellie Longshore, Mrs. Ola
Swindler, and Mrs. Elise Holson-
back.
Takes Textile
Sponsored Tour
CLEMSON.—Mrs. Mildred Holi
day, home demonstration agent for
Newberry County, took part in a
three-day tour of textile installa
tions this week.
The tour was sponsored by the
American Cotton Manufacturers
Institute, central trade association
of the American textile industry,
and textile industries in Ander
son, Greenville, Greenwood, Pen
dleton and Ware Shoals, in coop
eration with the Clemson College
Extension Service.
Home demonstration agents
from all of the state’s 46 counties
were invited to take part in the
tour.
The tour began Monday after
noon and continued through Wed
nesday.
The group saw many phases of
textile manufacture and research,
in raw cotton, man-made fibers,
spinning, weaving, finishing and
garment manufacture.
Mrs. Tysinger
Dies In Florida
Mrs. A. C. Tysinger (Kate
Spence) sister of Mrs. J. B. (Gus-|
sie) Harmon of Newberry, died
Wednesday, July 26, in Orlando,
Florida.
She was born in McCormick, S.
C. and moved to Newberry after
she married. Prior to moving to
Orlando, she had lived in Rock
Hill and Charlotte for many years.
Survivors include her husband
and one daughter, Mrs. Sherman
Peiffer and three grandchildren;
a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conduct
ed Saturday morning at 9:30 from
the Carey Hand Funeral Home in
Orlando and interment followed
in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

W. Hayne Wilson
Died Wednesday
W. Hayne Wilson, 71, died Wed
nesday morning at the Newberry
County Memorial Hospital. He
had been in ill health for several
years.
Mr. Wilson was born and rear
ed in Newberry County and was
the son of the late John C. and
Katherine Cromer Wilson. For a
number of years, he had made his
home in the Bachman Chapel sec
tion of the county and was a mem
ber of Bachman Chapel Lutheran
Church.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his
wife, Mr£ Janie (Jenny) Vaughn
Wilson, Prosperity; one son, W
.Hayne Wilson Jr., Newberry; sev
en daughters, Mrs. Louise Sum-

The Navy recovery force, com
posed of both surface and apr un
its, was deployed down the flight
path from Cape Canaveral to the
touchdown area northeast of the
Grand Bahamas Island, and was
prepared to recover the space
craft wherever it landed.
