Plastering basement ceiling with cement or gypsum plaster on metal lath; 4. “Firestopping” hollow partitions at floor level (especially basement); 5. Installing automatic sprinklers in cellar; 6. If the garage is part of the house it should be separated by masonry walls or at least by metal lath and cement or gypsum plaster. Any door in these walls should be a fire door but ac cess to the garage should be preferable from the outside only; 7. Have an approved fire extinguisher of the right type avail able.
