THURSDAY, JULY 14, 196tf THE NEWBERRY SUN, NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA PAGE S Zion Methodist Church Is Scene of Pretty Wedding Zion Methodist Church, Pros perity, was the scene of a lovely wedding at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, when Miss Joanne Werts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Lester Werts, became the bride of George Wallace Newman Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wallace Newman Sr., of Colum bia. The Reverend Paul C. Scott, pastor of the bride officiated, us ing the impressive double ring ceremony. The church was effectively dec orated in pink, white and green. Baskets of white gladioli, pink carnations and fern, palms and ivy created the setting for the nuptial vows. Branched candel abra filled ^ith pink cathedral tapers interspersed the nuptial background of the chancel and the bridal aisle. Nuptial music was furnished by Mr. Dennis Marion Bedenbaugh of Prosperity, organist, a cousin of the bride, and Mrs. William S. Hentz of Newberry, soloist (Betty Ariail) formerly of Columbia. Mr. Bedenbaugh played “The Sweetest Story Ever Told”, “Et ernally”, “O Promise Me”, “I Love You Truly”, “O Perfect Love” was played as the candles were lighted. “Seal Us Oh Holy Spirit” was rendered softly dur ing the ceremony. Mrs. Hentz sang “Because”, “Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee”, and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Traditional marches were used for the processional and recessional. Given i" marriage by her fa ther, the bride was radiantly beautiful in her floor-length gown of rose point lace, nylon tulle and satin. The sabrina neckline was outlined with alencon lace etched with sequins and pearls. The em pire bodice of lace closed in the back with tiny self-covered but tons as did the long sleeves which ended in glove points at the wirsts. The bouffant skirt of lace and nylon tulle over satin, had an over skirt of lace descending in deep and scalloped points in the center front and back. Her three tiered finger-tip veil of imported French illusion was caught to a seeded pearl and sequin headpiece. She carried a heart shape cascade bouquet of stephanotis, cattleyea orchids, white carnations and phalaenopis orchids. The bride also wore pear! ear- bobs and a pearl necklace, a gift from her bridegroom. Mrs. Robert Barnes (Jean Werts), of Prosperity, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a street length dress of white chiffon with brocaded flow ers around the waist and skirt. She wore long pink gloves and earbobs and a band of white pearls with a circlet pink veil, a gift from the bride. She carried a pink heart shape cascade bouquet of pink and white carnations, with net and ivy. He was attired in miniature formal style and car ried the rings on a white satin pillow trimmed with lace. The bridegroom’s best man was Felton P. Corley of Raleigh, North Carolina. Usher-groomsmen were Robert Barnes, brother-in-law of the bride of Prosperity, John W. Yongblood, of Columbia, Jessie Lee Sims Jr., and David Sims, cousins of the bride-groom, of Columbia. Ushers Barnes and Youngblood served as acolytes. The bride’s mother wore a dress cf dusty rose lace with black ac cessories and a white cattleyea orchid corsage. The bridegroom’s mother wore a dress of grey chiffon over taf feta trimmed with sequins. Her accessories were black and she wore a white cattleyea orchid corsage. Mrs .Pearl Bedenbaugh Counts of Prosperity, maternal grand mother of the bride, wore a black eyelet dress with black accessories and a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Pearl Smith of Newberry, paternal grandmother of the bride wore a beige polished embroider ed cotton dress with beige acces sories and a corsage of white ear- nations. Mrs. Edward B. Turner Jr. (Mary Louise Newman, formerly Of Columbia), sister of the bride groom, and of Birmingham, Ala bama, wore a dress of white lace over green taffeta. Her accessories were white and she wore a white carnation corsage. Mrs. William Leslie Mills Jr. (Jenny Bouknight) of Prosperity, presided at the guest’s register. She wore a white taffeta dress overlaid with lavender lace, white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The couple received in the church vestibule. Mrs. Newman chose for her traveling a beige lace dress with beige accessories and the orchid lifted from her bridal bouquet complimented her lovely costume. They will have a short trip to the beach and on July 11 they will leave for Niagra Falls and Cana da, after that time they will re side at 4314 Main St., Columbia. Mrs. Newman is a graduate of Prosperity High School and is employed as an IBM operator at the General Electric Plant, Irmo. Mr. Newman is a graduate of Columbia High School and Clem- son College. He holds a foreman’s position at the General Electric Plant, Irmo. rosebuds were used throughout the home. A dessert plate was en joyed by the many guests who showered Miss Werts with useful gifts. The hostess’ gift to the bride was a piece of her dinner- ware. Mrs. Jacob A. Bowers Jr. en tertained for Miss Joanne Werts with a lingerie shower on May 10 at her home in Prosperity. The honoree’s place was marked with a carnation corsage. Upon arrival of the guest, little Miss Betty Ola Bowers, and Mrs. Jimmy Beden baugh pinned a mum corsage on each. The living room and dining rooms were filled with arrange ments of carnations ,gladiolus, snapdragons and roses. A salad plate with punch was served. Mrs. Bower’s gift to the honoree was a lovely nylon gown. On Saturday evening, May 14th, Mrs. Jimmy Bedenbaugh of Pros perity and Mrs. Billy Bowers of Aiken honored Miss Joanne Werts with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Bedenbaugh. The honoree’s place was marked with a large White satin bow and a white carnation corsage. Lovely arrangements of red and pink CHANNEL.... AUGUSTA - GEORGIA WEDNESDAY. JTTLY JO. I960 Rehearsal Party Mrs. Lester Werts, mother of the bride, and Mrs. Robert Barnes, eister of the bride, entertained the wedding party and other guests on July first, immediately following the rehoarsal, in the Zion Recreational Hall. The hall was beautifully decorated in the color scheme of pink and white. The bride’s table was overlaid with a beautiful cut-work cloth, centering it was the lovely three tiered cake, which the couple cut and it was then served by Mrs. James Henry Summers. Miss San dra. Counts presided at the punch bowl. Sandwiches, pickles, olives, nuts, mints and punch was serv ed. Others assisting were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Counts of Newberry. The home was decorated throughout with lovely arrange ments of mixed garden flowers. Those receiving were Miss Werts, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Werts, Mr. Newman and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barnes, sister of the bride of Prosperity, Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. Turner Jr., sister of the groom, of Bir mingham, Ala. During the even ing, tasty refreshments, consist ing of sandwiches, mints, nuts, cakes and punch were served.
