ROBERT LEE The Rev. Royal) A. Yount, D.D. will preach the Baccalaureate ser mon, and the Rev. Robert Edward Lee will be the Commencement speaker at Newberry College Commencement. The Baccalaureate service will be held in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Sunday, May 89 •t 1:00 a.m. The Commencement exercises will be held in MacLean Gymnasium that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Yount is a graduate of Le noir Rhyne College, class of 1942, and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, class of 1945. He received the Doctor of Divinity Degree (D.D.) from Newberry College in 1956. He was ordained in the North Carolina Synod in 1945 and has served pastorates in the South; also as a delegate to the ‘U.L.C.A. Convention. Dr. Yount is President of the Florida Lutheran Synod, a position he has held for a number of years. The Rev, Robert E. Lee, a na tive of Washington, D. C., is a graduate of George Washington University, Washington, D. C., and the Lutheran Theological Semin ary, Gettysburg, Pa. He has also done graduate work at Union Theological Seminary, New York, N. CARMAN BOUKNIGHT County Native Died Easter Joseph H. (Joe) Wise, son of Allen M. and Marilla Riser Wke, died at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia on Easter Sunday, April 17 after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Prosperity on Feb. 23, 1881 and at the age of 14 moved to Columbia with his family. He lived there until after his graduation from the Univer sity of South Carolina, and later went to Richmond to live. He had been an employee of the Cfcy of Richmond, and had re tired last year. Survivors include his wife, the former Alice Lacy; two sisters, Mrs. V. Y. Booser of Richmond and Mrs Clarence Norman of Monroe, N. C.; seven nieces and six nephews. FARM NOTES By COUNTY AGENTS AGRI-BUSINESS TOUR Many of our businessmen here in Newberry City, Whitmire, Po- maria, Little Mountain and Pros perity are going to be offered the opportunity to itour a part of Newberry County to see just what is really involved in the business of farming. Farming is a big in vestment and requires top man agement to make this investment pay off. This tour is to take place Wed* nesday, May 18th, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. with a chicken barbecue supper. Busi- nesemen—mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend. Your eyes will be opened as all phases of farming are shown and present ed to you. You will receive letters of invitation. 4-H RECORDS Attention all 4-H Boys I Records are due to be checked during your May meeting. Don’t forget to have those that are to be turned in, complete. The records that are not due to be complete by May should also be brought to be checked as to progress being made and for the purpose of answering any questions you have , about your records. Remember! A 4-H Club member must successfully complete at least one project a year and turn in a record of com pletion. Parent?! Please *eel free to as sist your boy with his 4-H Club work. We expect you to help him. He is to do the work, but without your assistance and guidance he cannot always be expected to do a top notch job. Our aim is to help 4-H boys to learn by doing along with proper guidance. 4-H CAMP 4-H Boys and Girls! This year we are going to Camp Bob Coop er to attend 4-H Camp. We plan to go July 11. Remember this date and be ready to go. Camp Bob Cooper is located near Summerton and Manning, S. C. This camp has the best in Camp Staff personnel and is well organized and supervised. Boys and girls attend 4-H camp each year to learn and to have an enjoyable time. They stay from Monday until Friday afternoon. Parents! Plan for your boy or girl to attend 4-H Camp this year. Smith, Valley Farm Dairy, Rt 1, Kinards, has recently com pleted an official production rec ord giving her a Cow Power In dex of 15.7. This indicates thet this cow produced 15.7 times her body weight in milk during this lactation and has a very high ef ficiency rating. ' Her total production was 18,874 lbs. milk and 728 Ibe. butterfat in 305 days at the age ftfr 7 years 9 months. This record is proof thet a dairy cow doesn’t have to be big to be most effldrnt and profitable. Mae Creekmore, 77, James M. Harmon, died early Wednesday morning at the Newberry County Memorial Hos pital. She had been in declining health for three years and ill for several days.
