Local Gub Wins District Awards The East Piedmont District meeting of the Garden Ci ib of South Carolina, was held in Spar tanburg Wednesday, March 16. Six awards were offered Par achievement done by a district club and The Newberry Garden Club was first place winner of two. The local club was awarded a blue ribbon for the best club report and another for their re port «ta garden therapy. The lat ter being a cash award offered by the Arthur State Bank of Union, h Mre. H. Zeke Yarborough, Former Resident, Dies In Columbia Milton ( u Zeke”) Yarborough, barber of Columbia, died March 9th at the Columbia Hospital af ter suffering a heart attack at hit home. He was born in Saluda County and was owner of the Yarborough Barber Shop at Hampton and Sumter Streets in Columbia. Mr. Yarborough was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nannie Berry Yarborough, Columbia: a son, Brannan Yar borough, Columbia; his mother, Mrs. Annie Coleman Yarborough, Saluda; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Schumpert, Saluda and Mrs. Mo- sells Evans, Joanna; two broth ers, Curtis Yarborough, Saluda, and Walter Yarborough, Ninety Six; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Saluda at Bethany Church. $182,000.00 WAS PAID FOR A BOOK . . . In the collection of choice items left by the late Dy son Perrins, was an illuminated manuscript of the Apocalypse — which is the Book of Revelation in the Bible. The illumination is overlaid with g-old leaf and was purchased by H. P. Kraus of the New York City Book Store at a sale in Sotherby’s Auction Gallery for $182,- 000.00. R. Rhodes In Manas sas, Va. The bride is the daugh ter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Wil liam Albert Dunn of Newberry, The bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Murphy of Anderson. l '" The Rev. J. B. Cassell of Bethel Lutheran Church of Manassas officiated. Miss Catherine Theresa Rhodes, granddaughter of the bride, was the junior maid of honor and her only attendant. She wore a white and red figured nylon dress, with white lace hat and carried a nose gay of red and white spring flow ers. The bride was given in mar riage by her son-in-law, James Ralph Rhodes. She wore a street length dior blue pure silk peau de soir ensemble with chenille style jacket, the dress under the jacket being a slim sheath, above tho el* bow sleeves and topped with alen- con lace yoke with sweetheart neckline, together with matching hat and slippers. She wore a cor sage of pink cymbidiums. Alex W. Crosswell of Columbia, nephew of the bridegroom, served as his best man. Immediately following the cere mony a bouffet dinner was served by Mrs. Rhodes, assisted by Mrs. Robert M. Caton of Nokesville, Va. and Mrs. Charles O. Calhoun of Manassas. For traveling the bride changed to a matching jacket costume of willow green silk pesante, the dress under the jacket being slim sheath, with above the elbow sleeves with a boat style neck line, topped with a natural straw hat trimmed with a single rose; a cashmere coat and brown acces sories, and the wedding corsage of pink cymbidiums. After a short wedding trip they will make their home in Ashland, Ky. Out of town guests for the wed ding were Mrs. B. B. Sprouse of Newberry; Mrs. Jesse R. Max well and Mr. and Mrs. Alex W. Electric Blankets Last year 3,370,000 electric blankets and electric aheeta were sold in the United States. They are popular for their light weight and the fact that the temperature stays even. Like anything else, it needs care to give top service. Here are some suggestions for lengthening the life of electric blankets. I. Keep the instructions which came with the blanket and follow them carefully. 2. Do not dry clean the blanket ChemicaM may damage the insu lation on the wiring. 8. Wash by hand or in an elec tric washer. a) To wash by hand make a heavy suds of warm water and mild soap, soak well, then squeese suds gently through the blanket for about 6 minutes. Rinse through two waters of the same tempera ture and squese as much water as possible from the blanket. Pat between heavy turkish towels to remove excess moisture. (b) To wash an electric blanket in an electric washer dissolve soap or detergent in warm water and put the blanket in the machine. Soak for 10 minutes, set the ma chine to agitate or tumble for one minute, and spin for two minutes or until the water has drained from the tub. Follow with a rinse in warm water for about one min ute. A final spin of two minutes should complete the washing. Wash only one blanket at a time. 4. If you have a dryer, use it to hasten drying. Pre-heat the dryer before putting the blanket in it.
