B. V. Chapman
State of South Carolina,
County of Newberry,
City of Newberry.
WHEREAS, the passing on
March 7, 1960^ o< one o^JNewher
ry's most esteemed and beloved
citizens, the Honorable B. V.
Chapman, was a great loss to his
State and more especially to our
City and County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chapman, in
addition to his many outstanding
services to his fellow man as an
attorney, served the City of New
berry, whose people were greatly
benefited by his conscientious and
able leadership and ability; and
WHEREAS, the high integrity,
high ideals, sense of loyalty, and
sense of humor endeared Mr.
Chapman to all who knew him;
NOW, Therefore, Be It Resolv
ed by the Mayor and Councilmen
of the City of Newberry, in Coun
cil Assembled:
That we deeply grieve the pass
ing of Mr. Chapman and extend
our sympathy to his family and
relatives on behalf of ourselves
and the people of the City;
That a copy of this Resolution
be sent to Mrs. Esther C. Chap
man, the wife of Mr. :Chaj>man,
and that a copy ■ thereof be pub
lished in the press serving Ithe

The regular meeting of the
Newberry Music Club was held on
March 8th at the home of Mrs.
P. K. Harmon.
Miss Mary Elizabeth Fowler,
vice president, presided and led
the members in reading the club
collect and then conducted the
business portion of the meeting.
The club voted to change the time
of the Sunday a^emoon broadcast
over station WKDK trom 4 p.m. to
1:05 p.m.
Miss Elizabeth Ann Ruff was
welcomed as a new member of
the club.
The program for the evening,
under the topic of “Music in Club
Affairs,” was presented by Mr. J.
D. French. It was brought out
that nearly all clubs turned to
music first for their entertain- 1
ment programs or used it as part
of regular programs.
Music in the form of club sing
ing was discussed by Mr. French
with the observation that a good
song leader was the key to suc
cess. Effective singing contrib
utes much to the fellowship and
relaxation of club members.
The program was concluded
with the singing of a few of the
more popular songs used in clubs,
by a quartette of club members
composed of Mesrs. Meredith Har
mon, Keitt Purcell, Bill Fields and
J. D. French, accompanied by
Mrs. J. E. Wiseman.
During the social hour delicious
refreshments were served by the
hostess, Mrs. P. K. Harmon, as
sisted by Mr. and Mrs. Meredith
Harmon, Mrs. Kemper Lake and
Mr. Bill Fields.

Error Noted In
Fluoride Letter
In an article written for last
week’s issue of The Sun by Mrs.
Lucile Wilson Kerr regarding
fluoriidation of the Newberry wat
er supply we regret an error in
the last paragraph of the article.
The first two words of the para
graph were transposed changing
the meaning of the question asked.
It should have read as follows:
“Is it consonant with sound pub
lic policy to apply drugs or medi
cation of any kind to a water sup
ply for all the people of a comr
munity, or should the city’s auth
ority be limited to making sure
that water is pure and abund
ant?”
We regret the error and are
happy to make this correction.
Among survivors are two sis
ters, Mrs v A. N. Gregory and
Mrs. Gladys Layton, both of New
berry.
W. Wage Bromwell, FBI agent
from Charlotte, N. C. office, will
be guest speaker at today’s
luncheon meeting of the Kiwanis
club.
Bromwell was born in Arling
ton, Va. and graduated from
Southeastern University, Wash
ington, D. C.
Mr. Bromwell hae been as
signed to the New York and St.
Louis field offices, at FBI head
quarters in Washington, D. C.
Montana, Cleveland, Ohio, and
and has served as Assistant Spec
ial Agent in Charge at Butte,
Boston, Mass. He is a veteran
FBI Agent who helped round up
a New York- espionage ring in
the early stages of War Id War
II, involving German espoinage.
As Special Agent in charge of
the Charlotte Division, he di
rects the activities of this Bureau
in North Carolina and the West
ern part of South Carolina.

Rabin are receiving congratula
tions upon the arrival of a son,
Michael Dean, born on March 9th
at Craig Air Force Base Hospital
in Selma, Ala. The baby weighed"
seven pounds, six ounces.
Mrs. Rabin is the former Miss
Gloria Diane Brooks of Green
Cove Springs, Fla. Lieutenant Ra
bin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A1
Rabin of Newberry.
D. E. Halfacre returned to his
home last Thursday after being a
patient in the Newberry Memorial
Hospital a week undergoing treat
ment.
