Children Need Help
To Calm Down For
Christmas Season
Many parents dread the coming
of the Christmas season because
their already active children seem
to become more exuberant.
This is natural since Santa Claus
and hidden packages, as well as
the mad rush of shopping and holi
day preparations, stimulates a
child’s emotions. Sometimes they
are so keyed up they are almost
hysterical.
Child development specialists be
lieve that by creating a quiet at
mosphere in your home and ex
plaining the joys of the holiday,
you will help prepare your child for
a more peaceful Christmas.
More time should be spent in
getting children ready for a rever
ent Christmas rather than a com
mercial one. Christmas will be a
joy for the entire family when you

r HERE’S nothing so tempting, so colorful, so tantalizing as a real
English plum pudding. For a Christmas celebration they are as
nuch a part of the scene as holly and the Christmas tree. They’re not
made as often as they were in our grandfather’s time, but here is
me you’ll like to jnake.
No mention is made of Nazareth

pound suet chopped fine
teaspoon nutmeg
teaspoon cloves
teaspoon mace
cup Cognac brandy
1 pound currants
14 pound flour ^
1 pound stale bread crumbs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
I teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon baking soda
Grated rfud 1 lemon
Salt to taste
Clean, wash, and dry currants. Add raisins. Mix all dry Ingredient)
well. Beat eggs, add Cognac brandy, pour over dry ingredients an.
mix thoroughly. Pack into greased pudding mold and steam for f
hours. When wanted for use, steam another 6 hours. Serve with Cognac
or Hard Sauce and bring to the table flaming. (Makes 6 pound?
serves 24 people.) Keeps for weeks in cool, dry place.

Flowing Bulbs

You can easily force spring
flowering bulbs to get continuous
bloom throughout the holiday sea
son and late winter.
Narcissi, hyacinths, tulips and
crocuses can be potted for flower
ing. Use only bulbs of best quality
Set them in shallow pots contain
ing soil with good water-holding
capacity and drainage. A satisfac
tory soil mixture is three parts
good garden loam, one part organic
matter and two parts sand. Fill the
pot with soil to one-half inch be
low the rim, leaving the tips of
bulbs barely exposed.
Plant hyacinths and narcissi as
close together as you can. For tu
lips, plant five or six bulbs in a five-
inch pot.
Place the pots In a cool place at
40-50 degrees. The soil must be
moist while in storage. When the
roots are well developed, bring the
pots into a warm room for forcing.
The plants grow best in full sun
and in moderately moist soil.
When the plants are in full bloom,
remove them from the sun to a
bright location.. The flowers will
last longer if you keep them in a
fairly cool place.
