STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA
COUNTY OF NEWBERRY.
Notice is hereby given that the
General Election for State anc
County will be held at the voting
precincts fixed by law in the
County aforesaid on Tuesday, No
vember 4, 1958, said day being
Tuesday following the first Mon
day, as prescribed by the State
Constitution.
Before the hour fixed for open
ing the polls Managers and Clerks
must take and subscribe to the
constitution oath. The Managers
elect their Chairman and Clerk.
The polls shall be opened a
such voting places as shall be
designated at 8 o’clock in the fore
noon, and close at 6 o’clock in the
afternoon of the day of election
except that in Aiken County the
polls shall remain open until 7 p
m., and shall be held open during
these hours without intermission
or adjournment; and the Mana
gers shall administer to each per
son offering to Vote oath that he
is qualified to vote at this election,
according to tfye Constitution of
this State, and that he has not
voted during this election.

The Managers have the power to
fill a vacancy, and if none of the
Managers attend, the citizens can
appoint from among the qualified
voters, the Managers, who, after
being duly sworn, can conduct the
election.
At the close of the election the
Managers and Clerks must proceed
publicly to open the ballot box and
count the ballots therein, and
continue without adjournment un
til the same is completed, and
make a statement of the results
for each office, and sign the
same. Within three days thereaf
ter the Chairman of the Board, or
some one designated by the Board,
must deliver to the Commission
ers of Election the poll list, the
box containing the ballots and
written statements of the results
of the election.
At the said election qualified
electors will vote upon the adop
tion or rejection of amendments to
the Constitution, as provided in

Mrs. Taylor, 80,
Dies Saturday
Mrs. Lucy Taylor, 80, a native
of Newberry, died late Saturday
evening at Columbia Hospital
after an extended illness.
She lived at 1426 Maple St., in
Columbia. She had made her home
in Columbia since 1931.
Mrs. Taylor was born March
30, 1878, in Newberry, a daughter
of the late H. Carter Wilson, and
Susan Oxner Wilson. She was the
widow of the Rev. James Chester
Taylor.
Survivors include three daugh
ters, Mrs. William T. Lawless of
Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Herbert E.
Gyles, Jr., and Mrs. Hardee B.
Parler, both of Columbia; two
sons, Otis Vernon Taylor and ihe
Rev. Voight Taylor, both of Co
lumbia; seven grandchildren, Mrs*
Charles Downing of Portsmouth
Va., Mrs. Preston Barber of Au

Mrs. Catherine (Bessie) Monts
Shealy, 79, wife of William B.
Shealy of Little Mountain, died
Thursday morning at Newberry
hospital after several days of ill-
;ness and several months of declin
ing health..
Mrs. Shealy was the daughter
of the late G. Michael and Kate
Feagle Monts Shealy and had liv
ed in Little. Mountain all of her
■life. She was the last member of
her immediate family.
She was a member of Holy
Trinity Lutheran Church, and had.
been church organist, suhday
school teacher, leader of the Light
Brigade and president and treas
urer of the. United Women of Holy
Trinity..
At theL time of her death, she
was the statistical secretary of
the church. She was a member, of
the Little Mouneain. Demonstrat

In addition to her husband, sur
viving are the following nieces and
nephews: Miss Elherta Sease of
Little Mountain, Mrs. Mekendree
Barr of Wilmington, DeL, Marlon
Counts of Mulliris and Dr. J.
Claude Sease of Little Mountain.
Funeral services were conduct
ed at. 3 pjn. Friday at Holy Trin
ity Church by the Rev. Garth L,
Hill Burial was in the church
cemetery.

Mrs. John L. Bedenbaugh,
formerly of Prosperity, died
Thursday in the Baptist Hospital
in Columbia.
She had lived in Columbia for
12 years and was a member of the
Weslayan Methodist Church
there.
