The thin roofline and rakish wrap-around rear window serve to kte the mobile appearance of OUtaaobfle’s ir Look” for 1959. Sweeping full-length the body, the sculptured twin booms grre Herschel Kemper of Kemper Chevrolet—Olds Co., announced today that the 1959 Oldsmobile will go on display in his show room at 1515 Main St., Friday, Oct. 3. The 1959 Oldsmobile will fea ture two new family-size body styles, two completely new and more efficient Rocket engines, in creased passenger and luggage space, new Air-Scoop brakes on all four wheels and many other advancements, according to Jack F. Wolfram, general manager of Oldsmobile and vice president of General Motors. “Oldsmobile for 1959 represents the most outstanding product in Oldsmobile’s history in styling, quality and value,” Wolfram stat ed. “And our two new Holiday hardtops introduce an entirely different trend in passenger car design”, he added. The Holiday SportSedan is a sporty four-door family-size car. The two door Holiday Scenic- Coupe has an entirely new silhou ette, a snappy appearance and exceptional visibility in all dir ections. The two new styles will be available throughhout the Old smobile line. For 1959 Oldsmobile is offering 15 body styles in its Dynamic “88” Super “88” and “98” series. In each series are the Holiday Sceni- Coupe and Holiday SportSedan, a four-door sedan and a convert ible. In the Dynamic “88” series, in addition, there is a two-door se dan and a Fiesta station wagon. The Fiesta is also built in the Super “88” series. The trim, tasteful beauty of Oldsmobile’s new “Linear Look” for 1959 is apparent at first glance from the completely rede signed body and wide-spaced four- beam headlamps set within a full- width grille of anodized aluminum. For maximum protection, the rectangular patterned grille is deeply recessed under the hood and well behind the leading edge of the bumper. Oldsmobile identi fication appears in bold block let ters across the center of the grille. The new, circular parking lamps are located between each I)air of headlamps which provide better lighting from their new wide- apart spacing and closer-to-the- road location. Sculptured twin booms sweep full-length along the body to give the car a look of mobility even when parked, and also serve as the key area for Oldsmobile’s for Oldsmobile’s unique two-ton ing for 1959. Oldsmobile will offer 15 exciting exterior “Magic Mir ror” color finishes for 1959. These exceptionally durable acrylic base paints, formerly optional at extra cost, are now standard finishes on all models. Smart, new interiors including upholstery and appointments will complement Oldsmobile’s new ex terior styling which, as Wolfram said, “is entirely different than anything we’ve done in the past, with clean lines, yet still exciting, brilliant and distinctively Olds.” The cowl air intake grille is lo cated on the hood and the new ducts and outlets increase venti lating air flow up to 75 per cent. Incoming air now travels directly to special fresh air outlets in the inner shroud panels on each side of the front passenger compart ment. Louvered outlets permit even distribution of cooling air throughout the interior. To match the spectacular ad vances in styling, Oldsmobile for 1959 has developed two of the most responsive and economical Rocket engines since the first th« car a look of Mobility even when parked. Tb«v also highlight Oldsmobile’* unique two-tone styling for 1959. Recessed in the smart grille, the four-beam headlamps are located cloeer-to- the-road for improved nighttime visibility. The SportSedan body style also is available in the “98” and Soper “88” series. Increased interior roominess is a feature of all 1959 OldsmobDes. high-compression Rocket was in troduced by Oldsmobile in 1949. Both are smoother and quieter in operation with a new cylinder block, having longer cylinder bores, new reinforced aluminum pistons, connecting rods with greater bearing area, a larger in take valve and a more rigid crank shaft. Economy of operation in both new engines has been improved through better carburetion, more efficient, freer “breathing” and a new automatic split choke that will give greatly increased fuel economy especially during engine warm-up in cold weather opera tion. Ride and cornering characteris tics of the 1959 Oldsmobile have been further improved through use of a stronger and wider X- member frame; new wider tread both front and rear; new double acting front suspension; new rear springs and ^ wider-base rear sus pension. Oldsmobile’s “Roto-Matic” pow er steering is completely new to give more power assistance and greater steering precision. Heart of the new system is a new rotary control valve that responds faster, and requires only one pound of ef fort for straight-away steering control. In difficult parking situa tions, 50 per cent less effort is required than formerly. The new system is standard on the “98” series, and optional on the Super “88” and Dynamic “88” series. The glove compartment door and radio are a part of the newly balanced design of the “Twin- Contour” instrument panel which places the instrument cluster di rectly in front of the driver for greater convenience and driving pleasure. The new “Safety-Spec trum” speedometer utilizes vary ing colors to help the driver main tain safe driving speeds. Speed is indicated by a moving band of color which is green from 0-35 m. p.h., orange from 35-05 m.p.h., and red above 65 m.p.h. THE OLDEST THING YOU WEAR? Do look now!
