Miss Crooks Dies
At Advanced Age
Miss Mamie E. Crooks,, 91, died
Thursday night at her home in
Newberry after a lingering illness.
Born in Union County, she was
a daughter of the late John B.
and Amanda G. Lyon Crooks. She
was a graduate of Marion Female
College in Marion, Va., and had
been a teacher for 40 years in the
schools of North and South Caro
lina. She was a member of the
Lutheran Church of the Redeem
er.
Surviving are one sister, Miss
Hattie Belle Crooks of Newberry.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday morning at Whitaker Fun
eral Home by Rev. Paul E. Mon
roe Jr. Burial was in Rosemont
Cemetery.

Mrs. Pugh, 71
Mrs. Florie Aurelia Lominack
Pugh, 71, widow of Arthur Pugh,
died Sunday afternoon at New
berry County Memorial Hospital
after a month’s critical illness.
Born in Newberry, she was a
daughter of the late W. H. and
Rhoda Reighley Lominack. She
made her home in Prosperity for
a number of years where she and
her late husband operated a mer
cantile business. She had lived in
Newberry for the past several
years and was a member of St.
Luke’s Lutheran, Church.
Surviving are three brothers,
Forrest, Henry and Frazier Lom
inack, all of Newberry; five sis
ters, Mrs. A. H. Dickert of Green
ville, Mrs. Frank DeVore of New
berry, Mrs. Heber Leaphart of
Prosperity, Mrs. Fred Gnann of
Clyo, Ga., and Mrs. Lang Dom
inick of Chappells.
Funeral services were held
Monday at 5 p. m. at Whitaker
Funeral Home by Dr. Thomas F.
Suber and Rev. Melvin E. Derrick.
Burial was in Rosemont Cemtery.
