( V / PAGE FOUR State Cabins Are Available Family vacation cabins are still available at six South Caro lina State Parks according to State Park Director C. West Ja- cocks. Cabin assignments, which were made by a drawing held in March filled most park cabins for the , months of June, July and August. However, cabins can still be re served for some weeks during the summer at Cheraw, Givhans Fer ry, Poinsett, Santee, Table Rock, and Oconee State Parks, Mr. Ja- cocks said. Families who did not receive reservations in the park of their choice, or who did not get their applications in the March draw ing still have an opportunity to spend a low-cost vacation in one of the state parks, he said. All applications and requests for in formation should be addressed to the S. C. State Commission of Forestry, P. O. Box 357, Colum bia, S. C. Cabins for Negro families are available at both Pleasant Ridge State Park in the mountains of Greenville County and Hunting Island by the sea. Reservations at either of these parks can still be made for any week of the summer season, said Mr. Jacocks. PROSPERITY NEWS Miss Rosa Mae Mitchell, who has'been teaching in Blythew'ood, has arrived in Prosperity for her summer vacation with her cousin, Mrs. L. J. Fellers. M. A. Scott of the University of Georgia has joined his wife and son, w’ho have been visiting her mother, Mrs. Pat E. Wise, for a week’s visit before they return to Athens for the summer school session. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomson and their son, Tommy, of St. Louis, Mo. are on a two weeks’ visit with Mrs. Thomson’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wessin- ger. With the Wessingers Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Ab rams of Bennettsville, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pinson of Cross Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Osward and their two children and Miss Eliza beth Dominick of Columbia. Miss Joy Thomasson of the Brookland-Cayce High School fac ulty is at home for her vacation. Miss Earlene Derrick of Irmo is spending the week with her cousin, Miss Faye Counts, who spent last week in Irmo. Mr. Herman Taylor underwent eye surgery in the Newberry hos pital last week. He is getting along nicely. Mrs. J. Frank Browne, Mrs. P. W. Smith, Mrs. Frank McMillan Jr. and Frank McMillan III went to Union Sunday to see Mr. .and Mrs. George Spence Wise Jr. and George Spence III. Waldo Saner of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Saner, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Wheeler of Batesburg, Mrs. Arthur Le Vant of Grosse Point, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Anderson of Sanford, Fla., Mr. and Mis. Oliver Smith of Jackson ville, Fla., Dr. and Mrs. Douglass White of Columbia, and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Thomas of Savannah, Ga., were called to Prosperity last Saturday because of the illness and death of their mother, Mrs. C. F. Saner. Tommy and Mary Elizabeth Lof- tis of Charlotte, N. C. are visit ing their grandparents, Mr. and^ Mrs. W. E. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Black and their two sons, Bucky and Luke, left Wednesday for a trip to Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Birge Wise and their two children of Columbia visited Mrs. Lillian W. Harmon Sunday. Mrs. J. D. Luther was hostess to the Prosperity Garden Club Monday afternoon, June 2. Mrs. C. A. Kaufmann and Coach Harvey B. Kirkland, Direc tor of Athletics at Newberry Col lege, announced this week that Thomas R. Quinn had been ap pointed as Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Coach of Basketball. Mi. Quinn re places George Pickett who accept ed work at The Citadel in May. Mr. Quinn is a native of West Virginia. He is a graduate of Marshall College (1954) A.B. de gree; from University of Florida he earned the Master of Physical Mrs. Bullock Rites Wednesday Mrs. Lillie Glenn Bullock, 88, widow of William W. Bullock, died Sunday afternoon at a nurs ing home in Six Mile. She had been in declining health for sev eral years. Mrs. Bullock was a native of Laurens County but had spent most of her life in Newberry and Columbia. She was a mem ber of the First Baptist Church of Newberry. For a number of yea.s, she and her husband op erated the Newberry Hotel. Surviving are four sons, Glenn W. Bullock of Charlotte, N. C., M. L. and J. Ryan Bullock, both of Miami, Fla., and L. White Bullock of Columbia; two daugh ters, Mrs. Mary Lou Anderson of Newberry and. Mrs. Kate B. Helms, formerly of Columbia, but now of Clarksville, Va.; sev en grandchildren; two brothers and one sister. Education and Health degree in 1955. He has been principal, head basketball and track coach, junior football coach and teacher of English in Cocoa High School, Co coa, Florida. He served in the U. S. Air Force 1946-1949. Mr. Quinn will begin his duties at Newber ry College in the summer.
