(USC News Serv. Photo) Koon Service Held Saturday George Walter Koon, 77, died late Friday at Mills Clinic in Prosperity. He had been in ill Health for several months and had been seriously ill for the last three weeks. Mr. Koon was born and reared in Lexington County, a son of the late John and Rosanna Long Koon. He had made his home in the Macedonia section of New berry County and operated his farm until his health failed. He was a member of St. Peter's (Piney woods) Lutheran Church. His wife was the late Mrs. Mat- tie Bowers Koon. Surviving are three sons, Wil bur E. Koon of Prosperity, Vir gil H. Koon' of Newberry, John Pat Koon of Columbia; two daugh ters, Mrs. S. W. Shealy and Miss Katherine Koon, both of Pros perity; a sister, Mrs. Ella Os wald of Gilbert; nine grand children and ten great grand children. Funeral services were held Sat urday afternoon at St. Peter’s Church by Rev. John D. Zeigler. Burial was in the church ceme tery. Mrs. Sallie Saner Services Monday Mrs. Sallie Frick Saner, 81, of Prosperity, died Saturday after noon at Newberry County Me morial Hospital after a short ill ness. She was born in the Piney Woods section of NewberryCoun- t y and was the daughter of the late Archibald and Mary Jane Van Sant Frick. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Surviving are two sons, 'Waldo Saner of Columbia and Guy Sa ner of Batesburg; six daughters, Mrs. C. L. Wheeler of Bates burg, Mrs. B. W. Anderson of Sanford, Fla., Mrs. Arthur Le Vant of Grosse Point, Mich., Mrs. Douglas White of Columbia, Mrs. J. L. Thomas of Prosperity, and Mrs. Oliver Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Jabez Frick of Little Mountain and four grand children. Funeral services were, held Monday at 3 p. m. at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Ben M. Clark. Burial was ip, Prosperity Cemetery. WSCS Training On Wednesday The Greenwood District of Woman’s Society of Christian Service presidents’ training insti tute will be held at Harris Church, Greenwood, June 18. The meeting will begin at 10 a. m. and will end with the luncheon at 1:00 p. m. The president of every local society is expected to attend or to send a substitute, preferably the secretary of promotion, or vice president. One other key woman from each society is also expected to attend. Recent Marriages George Herman Robinson of Union and Patricia Fay Wofford of Newberry were married on June 2nd at Union by Rev. R. R. Harold Green Hudson of Spar tanburg and Emma Joyce Minick of Newberry were married by Rev. Paul E. Monroe Jr., at New berry on May 29th. Clayburn Burney Drake of An derson and Constance Estelle Sheely of Newberry were married on May 31 at Newberry by Rev. Paul E. Monroe Jr. James C. Mills of Prosperity and Joan Claire Boozer of Lees- ville, were married by Rev. H. Smith Petrea on June 1st at Lees- ville. James Robert Hamm and Jud ith Hunter of Prosperity were married at Prosperity on June 1st by Rev. Thomas F. Suber. Sister Of Local Woman Succumbs Mrs. Bessie Stevenson Wicker died at her home in Charlotte, N. C. after a heart attack. She was in declining health for some time. Mrs. Wicker born and reared at Winnsboro, the daughter of the late William S. and Mrs. Julia Stevenson Long. She was the widow of the late A. M. Wick er and had lived all of her mar ried life in Charlotte. Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Cole N. Scott of Atlanta and Mrs. Ken Wood of Charlotte. A son, Chaplain Mon roe Wicker, was killed at Casa blanca, Africa, in World War II. Also surviving are one brother, J. White Stevenson of George town; and five sisters, Mrs. A. K. Dill of Clinton, Mrs. John H. Ruff of Newberry,. Mrs. A. C. Timms, Mrs. Eloise Morris ahd Mrs. Rae Hall, all of Winnsboro. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Presbyter ian Church in Charlotte. Burial was in Charlotte. HENDRIX Mr. and Mrs. James Winston Hendrix of Route 3 announce the birth of an eight pound, 14 ounce son, James Winston Jr., on June 2 at the local hospital. Mrs. Hend rix is the former Mary Eliza beth Folk. TAYLOR Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tracy Taylor of 117 Caldwell St. are parents of a seven pound, four ounce sen, Michael Tracy, born June 4th at Newberry Hospital. All members are urged to be present. * Oxner Rites Were Last Tuesday Lawrence G. Oxner of Kinards died Sunday at Veterans’ Hospi tal in Columbia after an illness of six weeks. Surviving are one lister, Mrs. Eva O. Bethea of Columbia; four brothers, J. Carlisle Oxner of Columbia, Van C. and M. W. Oxner Jr. of Kinards and Associ ate Justice G. Dewey Oxner of Greenville. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a. m. at the home. Burial was in the cemetery of Sharon Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Ruff and daughter, Mrs. Julia R.
