The Honorable WiUUi
Anderson
South Carolina
Dear Bill:
I have just written more than fifty of my friends and-business associates
throughout South Carolina ashing that they support you in your race for
governor of South Carolina.
l have told them that you have been our next door neighbor in
here in Anderson for the past 27 years as was your father for a
of years before that, and that you were a good businessman, a
competitor and that the best interests of South Carolina wonkl he
hands for the next four years if you are elected governor.
A
1 also said to them that you have been mayor of Anderson for the past
twelve years, that you have been an outstanding mayor and that Anderson
had prospered and gone forward in many ways under your leadership.
\
In my letter 1 stated that yon were a good church man, a good husband
and father, president of the YMCA and that you had taken an active part
during the past 30 years in all movements that were for the best interests
of our city, county, and state.
1
i
If elected governor I feel sore that the state wftH continue to go forward
and prosper under your leadership and from the reports I have heard
throughout the state it looks now as if you will lead the ticket in the coming
primary and that you will be our next governor. Do not hesitate to call
upon me if there is anything I can do for you.
With kindest regards, 1 am.
Yours
W. E. Gallant
JOHNSTON STANDS FOR SOMETHING!
He is in close touch with the people.
He has the experience and qualifica
tions to make this state a great gover-
nor, and the PEOPLE are going to
elect him.
He will oppose any increase in taxes,
including the talked of increase in the
sales tax. He says the trend to add*
more and more taxes to the backs of
the salaried people and wage earr^rs
must be stopped.
Beared on the farm, he knows first
hand the problems that confront our
farm population. He believes our farm
ers deserve more than a bare living.
As a merchant himself, he is solidly
against new laws that hamper and
throttle our merchants, and he vigorous
ly favors changes in the unfair floor
tax now imposed on merchants’ stocks.
He is in full sympathy with all our
people who work for a living. His rec
ord is one of utmost consideration
for the working men and women.
Any increase in the price of automo
bile license plates will be opposed. “The
automobile,” says BiH Johnston, “Is the
most over-taxed piece of property hi
South Carolina.”
He is in close touch with the people
in every nook and comer of the state.
He advocates cooperation for the indus
tries we already have in South Caro*-
lina, and will help secure new indus
tries for every one of our 46 counties
of the state.
He favors maintenance of the 12th
grade in our public schools and in
creased pay for our public school
teachers.
And of course. Bill Johnston is a
DEMOCRAT.
Like his brother, Olin D. Johnston,
also a native of Honea Path who was
twice elected Governor of South Caro
lina by the people and is now the Pal
metto State’s Senior United States Sen
ator, we know Mayor Johnston will
make all of us a Governor of whom we
will justly be proud. — Honea Path
Chronicle.
