Cage Schedule
Opens Tonight
Tn» Nswbsrry College Redskins
will open their home basketball
season with two games scheduled
Thursday night, December 12. The
Redskins will match height against
Belmont Abbey. The second game
will be played Saturday night
December 14, against High Point
College. In last year's competit
ion Newberry split the winnings
with each team. These games will
be played in the MaeLean gym
nasium beginning at 8 P. M.
So far The Redskins hold a 1-2
record. They lost their first two
games, one to Lenoir Rhyne and
one to The Citadel. The Redskins
came back from their third game
with a victory over The College
of Charleston.
This season Coach George K.
Pickett, basketball coach of the
Newberry Redskins, will be backed
by four juniors who started out
with Pickett in their Freshmen
year. Each of these men have
two full years of experience be
hind them, having lettered In
both of the past seasons. They
are: Jim Wooldridge, Sonny Dug
an Bobby Lynch, and Tom Keegen.
Pickett will also have four return
ing Freshmen who are now Soph
omores: Jo# Capasso, Charlie
(iallager, Bob Hampton, and Mat
Herndon. There is also a fine
host of freshmen and several
transfer students who will holster
the starting five.
From the way things look, this
should he Newberry’s best season
In the past ten years. Every man
on the team Is fast moving, ag
gressive, and out to win, The only
thing that the Redskins lack is
height. Wooldridge and Hampton
both stand tl'7’-, hut the guards
and forwards stand just over six
feet.
With a little hustle and drive,
plus some help from lady LUCK,
the Redskins eould go all the
way and capture the Little Four
Crown.
