YOUNG, Correspondent Miss Katie Mae Mills, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Loy Mills of the Fairview community became the bride of Jennings Slice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Slice of Chapin, on Saturday evening, De cember 15, at eight o’clock in Macedonia Lutheran Church. The double ring ceremony was per formed by Rev. John Koch, pas tor of the bride, before an as semblage of relatives and inti mate friends. White carnations and gladioli ■were used in the altar vases and floor baskets. Miss Freida Shealy of Pros perity was maid of honor and George Willis of Newberry was best man. Miss Shealy w'ore a pink dress, winter white hat and gloves, and black shoes. A w’hite carnation corsage completed her outfit. The bride wore a light blue princess style dress with match ing blue accessories. She car ried a white Bible topped with an orchid. Henry Martin furnished the wedding music. After a wedding trip the cou ple will stay with the bride’s par ents. The December meeting of the Literary Sotosis was held Friday afternoon with Miss Eleanor Shearouse as hostess. The president, Mrs. Walter Hamm, presided. Mrs. D. H. Hamm, Jr., gave an informative and interesting pro gram on Arizona. Before her dis cussion Mrs. Hamm showed pam phlet pictures in color of flowers, canyons, sunsets, and other typi cal pictures of Arizona. During these talks, Mrs. Walter Hamm showed colored slides to illus trate many items of interest giv- enby Mrs. Dan Hamm. The pic tures were taken by the Hamms on one of their Western trips. Mementos of the petrified forests and painted desert were also shown. After adjournment the hostess served a palatable salad plate, fruit cake and coffee. Mrs. Richard Foster entertain ed the Women’s Auxiliary to Lo cal 807, Postal Clerk’s Union,Col umbia, on Thursday, December 7 at her home here. Mrs. Foster is the outgoing president. A turkey dinner, buffet style, was served to the 16 members present. During the business session a candle light installation service was held for officers for the com ing year. They are: President, Mrs. C. W. Kearse, Jr.; vice-pres ident, Mrs. R. A. Ballentine; sec retary, Mrs. Know Fraley; treas urer, Mrs. Layton Stirrat, all of Columbia. After the business session the members enjoyed the annual ex change of Christmas gifts. The Christmas meeting of the Dogwood Garden club was held Monday afternoon, December 10 at the home of Mrs. Jacob Bow ers. The lovely Christmas arrang ements and tree added a festive spirit to the meeting. Mrs. W. C. Barnes discussed Christmas plants. The gleaner, Mrs. H. B. Hendrix, read the Bib lical Christmas story. Mrs. W. H. Leaphart, Jr., was prize winner in the Christmas contest conducted by Mrs. H. L. Shealy. The exchange of gifts was a high light of this Merry occasion. Singley was hostess to the Crepe Myrtle Garden club last Tuesday evening. Thirteen members and one guest, Mrs. Vernon Epting, were present. The Christmas decorations and tree made a lovely setting for the Christmas party. Mrs. G. H. Caldwell, program leader, was unable to be present, but she made a number of novel Christmas decorations which she sent for the members to see. • Mrs. ^W. B. Ackerman, substi tuting for Mrs. W. A. Ballentine gave gleanings. Mrs. Raymond Ruff conducted a Christmas contest with Mrs. Ben Clark winning the prize. The exchange of gifts climaxed the program. During the social hour the hos tess served a salad plate, fruit and pound cake and coffee. Mrs. Tommy Harmon was hos tess to the Christmas party meet ing of the Iris Garden club Wed nesday afternoon, December 12th. Mrs. Isadore Ruff began the program by reading the Christ mas story. She then gave a prac tical discussion of caring for and keeping Christmas plants v Mrs. Curtis Counts gave gleanings. Mrs. Leroy Pugh and Mrs. Hu bert Stockman were recreation prize winners. Mrs. Stockman al so won the door prize. Gifts which had been placed under the lovely Christmas tree were distributed and caused much merriment. A palatable salad plate, fruit cake and coffee were served. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Josey of St. Charles were recent visitors of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs. G. H. Caldwell and family. The Rev.and Mrs. Ray P. Hook and their three children of Char leston spent Friday night and Saturday in Prosperity. Rev. and Mrs. Hook were guests of Mrs. Frances Spotts and Mrs. A. B. Hunt. A pageant, The First Christ mas, will be presented at Grace church Sunday evening December 23 at 6:15. Misses Jewel Connelly* and Joy Thomason of Columbia College are spending the Christmas vaca tion with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dove Connelly and Mrs. Vi da Thomasson. Miss Rachael Counts and Way ne Counts, students at Furman university, are spending Christ mas holidays with their perents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Counts. Mrs. Frank McMillan of Latta and Frank McMillan III of the University of S. C. are spending the holiday season with their mo ther and grandmother, Mrs. L. W. Harmon. The teachers from Prosperity who will come in, for the Christ mas holidays are: Miss Rosa Mae Mitchell from Pjedmont; Miss Katherine Counts, Greensboro, N. C.; Miss Maty Langford, North Augusta; Miss Phyllis Wyse, L. B. C. School in Aiken county; Miss Dorothy Leaphart, Harts- ville; Miss Sara Mae McFerrin, Calhoun Falls; Mrs. Annette Brooks, Wagner; Miss Beth Pugh from Martin, Tenn.; and Mrs. Jimmy Barnes, North Augusta.
