Oldsmobile for 1957 has com
pleted the most sweeping model
change in the past 20 years, with
distinctive styling innovations and
mechanical improvements in every
one of the 17 body styles in three
series of cars. The body is com
pletely new, creating a fashion-
new exterior appearance with
deeper bumpers and a redesigned
grille.

heavier chassis, new “pivotpoise”

suspension, a new 277-h.p. “Rock
et” engine, known as the T-400
due to its high torque throughout
the driving range, and new 14-
inch wheels.
Outstanding styling note is the
accert stripe, an Oldsmobile ex
clusive, that runs more than half
the length of the car’s side panels
between narrow chrome mould
ings. This marks the first new
style trend in exterior color ap
plication since Oldsmobile intro
duced two-tone color styling in the
body in 1954. The accent stripe
permits a new two-tone effect,
with the car painted one color
and the accept stripe in a con
trasting color. However, the con
ventional two-tone styling is still
available as an optional extra.
The 1957 Oldsmobiles will go on
display tomorrow (Friday) at the
W. H. Davis & Son showroom on
McKibben street.
More new features and design
changes have gone into the 1957
Oldsmobile than any of its pre
decessors in at least the past
two decades.
