The South Carolina Cancer Story
Last year 2,097 persons in South Carolina died of cancer — more than three times
as many as died of all communicable diseases combined. It is estimated that one-third
or 700 lives could have been saved if they had gone to their doctor for early diagnosis
&* the right treatment.
Every effort is being made to bring life-saving
facts about cancer to the people of South Carolina.
With your help the American Cancer Society can reach
more homes with this important information. Won’t
you help save a life?
The American Cancer Society depends entirely on
voluntary public support. Your support will enable
us to be sure that needy cancer patients in South Caro
lina will not suffer for want of drugs, dressings, sick
room supplies and other services.
i
400,000 Cured of Cancer
There has been great progress against the disease
in recent years, and there are alive today some 400,000
people who have been cured of cancer. Much of this
progress has been made possible by the Society’s Cru
sade. This program expansion MUST be continued.
The local chapter has reached its quota of $3500,
but there is still need for funds to reach their goal of
$4000.
$3510. has been sent to headquarters in Columbia,
from the local chapter. If you haven’t contributed and
would like to do so, just mail your check to Mrs. W. H.
Lominick, Treasurer, Pomaria, or give it to Mrs. Par-
nelle Ringer at Carpenters.
The census for 1954 shows that 54 persons died in
Newberry County from CANCER •in 1954. Don’t let
this happen in 1956. Give Now.
Approximately 25 persons were helped by the Lo
cal Cancer Chapter in Newberry County in 1955, in
cluding those who were given examinations and x-rays
at the Cancer Clinic in Columbia.
