The theme of the meeting was “Better Commu nities Through Active Leaders.? Mrs. M. H. Lineberger, president, presided. On Wednesday morning State Departmental chairmen conducted workshops for the following phases of work: Exterior beauti fication, Citizenship, Education, Health and Safety, International Relations, Legislative, Member ship, Music and Recreation, Pub licity,. Religion and Family Life and 4-H Club Work. Mrs. T. P. Crooks, of Newberry and State Education Chairman, conducted a workshop on her respective phase. Mirs. James L. Dominick, also of Newberry County gave a report in the 4-H workshop on 4- H activities in Newberry County. On Wednesday evening the State Master Farm Homemakers Guild met. Mrs. T. L. Crooks of Pomaria was elected secretary and treasurer of the state Master Farm Homemakers Guild. On Thursday morning Miss Juanita Neely, State Home Dem onstration agent recognized 163 project leaders for their outstand ing work in their local communi ties during the past year. During the business session re ports were heard from the Nom inating Committee. Mrs. M. H. Lineberger of York was reelected president, Mrs. Irvin Hawthorne of Donalds elected second vice president and Mrs. Hastings Woodward was elected director of the Savannah Valley district. CLASSIFIEDV AOS * ^ Boys May Win Trip To Camp COLUMBIA, June 26. — The tenth annual Boys Forestry Camp sponsored by the S. C. State Com mission of Forestry will be held at Camp Forest, Cheraw State Park August 6-11, according to State Forester Chas. H. Flory of Columbia. Any boy between the age of 12 and 15 years who is interested in forestry and the out-of-doors, and who would like to attend this camp should write a letter to the County Ranger of the county iri which he lives telling “Why I Would Like To Attend Forestry Camp.” The boy whose letter is judged best among all that are received by the Ranger will be se lected to go to camp free of any expense. All letters must be in hands of the County Ranger on or before Friday, July 20. The letter should be accompanied by parents’ written consent to attend camp. In addition to the 46 boys to be selected from all counties in South Carolina, 20 FFA boys and 30 4-H boys will be selected to attend the Forestry Camp. Camp Forest, one of the group camps at Cheraw State Park, of- Mrs. Fannie Mack Died Wednesday Mrs. Fannie Felker Mack, 80, widow of the late J. W. Mack died Wednesday afternoon of last week at the Newberry County Memor ial hospital after a declining ill ness of several years. She had been seriously ill for the past three days. Mrs. Mack was born and rear ed in the Mt. Pleasant section of Newberry County, a daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Hogge Felker. She had spent most of her life in Newberry and for many years had made her home at 500 Crosson street. She was a member of the West End Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons: Alonza, John Lee, and Bennie Mack all of Newberry; two daugh ters, Mrs. John B. Shealy and Mrs. Merie Bobb, both of Newber ry; eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her im mediate family. Funeral services were conduct ed at 5 p. m. Friday from the Mc- Swain funeral home by the Rev. Fay L. Lanford, the Rev. J. W. Davenport, and the Rev. D. M. Shull. Interment was in Rose- mont Cemetery in Newberry. Newberry County re ceived a red ribbon and the Lov ing Cup for work accomplished last year. Special memorial services were held for deceased members. Longr-Thomasson Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wilton Long of Leesville announce the engagement of their daughter, Edyth Leonelle to Frank Scott Thomasson, son of Mrs. A. C. Thomasson of Newberry and the late Mr. Thomasson. The wedding will take place on August 12 at Wittenburg Lutheran church in Leesville. Gallemore Rites In Greenville Dr. James Iverson Gallemore. 25, a 1956 graduate of the Medi cal College of South Carolina, died at the Columbia Hospital Saturday night from injuries re ceived in an automobile Occident just outside the Columbia .city limits about two hours earlier. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 p. m. at the Mackey Mortuary in Green ville, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Bolt, Dr. T. F. Suber, of New berry, and Dr. C. Frank Pitt man. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Janelle Lester Gallemore of Charleston and formerly of New berry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude L. Lester; his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam I. Galle more, of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Howard W. Barwell, of Franklin, N. C., and Miss Martha Gallemore, of Greenville; and a brother, David Gallemore, also of Greenville. Gallemore had finished at the Medical College of South Caro lina two weeks ago and was to take the state medical examina tions next week. His wife was riding with him at the time of the accident, but was not injured. Dr. Gallemore was graduated from Greenville High School in 1949. He attended Western Caro lina Teachers College in North Carolina and received his A. B. degree from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church, Charles ton, during his stay there, but was a (i former member of the Central Baptist Church of Green ville, and later of the Overbrook Baptist Church, where he served as choir director. He was fourth in the top 104 honor students of the nation and due to his record had been select ed by the Los Angeles County Hospital to interne there. He* had completed plans to go to Califor nia immediately upon finishing his examinations in South Caro lina. Dreher Rites Held On Friday Last John Bunyan Dreher, 76, retired farmer, died last Wednesday ev ening in his sleep at his home on McNary street in Prosperity. He had been in ill health for the past two years. • Dr. Dreher was bom and rear ed in Lexington County, a son of the late George L. and Louise Jane Mayer Dreher. He spent most of his life in Lexington County where he operated a farm and was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. He was a for mer member of the church council and had been elected an honorary member of the council. He moved to Prosperity twenty years ago where he operated a station for Esso of Standard Oil. He had also served as a magistrate’s constable for several years. He isurvived by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Alma Johnson of Gil bert, Miss Susie Dreher and Miss Rosa B. Dreher, both of Prosper ity, and several nieces and nep hews. Funeral services were conduct ed at 3:30 p. m. Friday from fhe graveside in Prosperity Cemetery by the Rev. John Koch. Mrs. Estelle Summer of Aiken spent the weekend in Newberry with her sister, Mrs. Julia Bla lock on Caldwell street and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Summer and daugh ter, Martha on Hunt street. « H. ATTEND HOME ECONO»MCS MEET IN WASHINGTON Sylvia Boozer of Newberry, a student at Lander College, will attend the meeting of the Nation al Home Ecnomics Association, to be held in Washington, D. C. on June 25-29. Sylvia is president of the South Carolina Home Eco nomics Student Clubs section. Miss Rennie Hook, head of -the department of Home Economics at Lander, will also attend the meeting. Headquarters for the student club section of the American Home Economics Association will be at Washington's Burlington Hotel. A busy week of tours, lectures, teas, fashion shows and banquets is in store for the delegates.
