Sincere Thanks
I wish to thank the people of Newberry County, in
particular, those in District 1, for the splendid vote
given me in Tuesday’s primary election.
I would like to urge your continued support in the
second primary to be held on June 26, in my candidacy
for Commissioner District No. 1.
If elected, I wish to assure you that I will do my best
to see that the people of the county are served equally
and well.

TO THE CITIZENS
OF NEWBERRY COUNTY
When I decided several months ago to enter the
race for State Senator from Newberry County, I did
so because I wanted to have the honor of serving my
county and the people of my county in that capacity.
By your vote in the Democratic primary on Tues
day, June 12, you have given me this honor.
It is with the deepest feeling of sincerity that I
say 'Thank You” to those who cast their ballot for
me Tuesday. To you, and every other citizen of the
county, I should like to state that in my capacity as
Senator, the interests of the people of Newberry will
always be foremost in my mind.
Again, thank you for the high honor you have *
given me.

BY THE WAY . .
(Continued from page 1)
enough dirt off for them to eat;
firewood stacked up ready for
use—all you have to do. is bring
your food and build the fire.
While there, we were delighted
when a car stopped and we dis
covered the occupants were a
couple who graduated from New
berry College in the same class as
Frasier, and their little girl, about
three years old. They were Joe
and Margaret Shull Hallman,
both of whom are teaching in
Laurens and were en route to
Margaret’s home in West Colum
bia. They, too, expressed their
appreciation for the Park, saying
they always stopped by there on
their trip from Laurens to Co
lumbia. So we all expressed our
appreciation to the Newberry
Garden Club and to Mrs. Richard
L. Baker, who is state chairman
of Roadside Development for the
S. C. Garden Clubs, for this nice
stop near Newberry. I’m sure we
will be enjoying it often during
the summer.
FIRST DIP ENJOYED
Two hundred children and 79
adults enjoyed the first swim of
the season at Margaret Hunter
pool last Saturday when it was
officially opened. This is one of
the nicest recreation centers in
Newberry, and City Manager Ed
Blackwell, as ' well as Recreation
Director Paul Fuller urges the
public to take advantage of it.
The pool will be closed in the
mornings except to those who are
taking swimming lessons which,
incidentally, are free except for
the admission charge to the pool.
It is open to the public afternoons
from 2:00 until 6:00, nights from
7:00 until 10:00 and Sunday af
ternoons, and I don’t know of
anything that gives children or
adults more healthy exercise and
enjoyment than a dip in a nice,
clean, sanitary pool.
