Social Security
Information
“Many Newberry County farm
ers have already filed tax returns
for the 1955 calendar year,” Miss

flounced today, -‘fhls year for the |
first time they have paid self-em
ployment tax for social security
protection. Miss Pressly empha
sized that all farmers who netted
$400 or more in 1955 from farming
must file these returns by April
15. 1956. Proper tax returns and
advice concerning taxes can be
obtained from the District Direc
tor of Internal Revenue, Columbia.
Miss Pressly explained, “this
social security credit will mean
much to farm families. Suppose
we take the case of a young and
prosperous farmer with a wife
and child. His earnings up to
$4200 a year are taxable for so
cial security. In the event he
should die soon after the close of
his second crop year under social
security and had made the maxi
mum of $4200 in both years, the
widow and small child would re
ceive a monthly benefit of $162.80.
“Write your Social Security Of
fice, Greenwood, for a booklet
showing the benefits payable
farm families under social secur
ity,” Miss Pressly invited. “And
don’t overlook the filing of that
tax return before April 15, 1956,’
she cautioned.
