Researchers Now 'See' Heart
Sounds That Can't Be Heard
FAINT HEART SOUNDS, which neither the human ear nor a physi
cian's stethoscope can hear, are picked np by sensitive microphone on
patient's chest (left) and seen (right) on oscilloscope, while sound
patterns are traced in pen and ink on writing device (center). This
is one of many research projects supported wholly or in part by the
Heart Fond.
