CLINTON Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clinton of 613 Glenn street are parents of a seven pound, six ounce daugh ter, Debra Yvonne, born Novem ber 5 at the Newberry County Hospital. CUMALANDER Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Cumalan- der of Little Mountain announce the birth of a nine pound, two ounce daughter, Janet Marie on November 6 at the local hospital. MAYER Mr. and Mrs. Duston Mayer of 2231 Eleanor street are paremts of a seven pound, eight ounce son. Dean Elbert, born November 6 at the Newberry Hospital. SPEERS STREET PTA TO MEET THURSDAY The Speers Street PTA will meet Thursday, tonight, at 8:00 o’clock in the school auditorium. The speaker will be Mrs. Eva Bullock, art teacher for the city schools. The program will last only one hour and all members and pros pective members are urged to be present. Woodlot Advice Being Sought Requests for technical assist ance and advice on farm woodlots is still in great demand, according to E. L. Middleswart, District For ester, Newberry. Since July 1, 1955, 86 separate tracts of timber have been examined, giving rec ommendations on the ground how to apply sound forestry practices. Also during the same period 30 tracts of timber have been select ively marked, which involves 1,- 315,771 board feet, of sawtimber and 9*45 cords of pulpwood. These figures are almost double the amount of work which was ac complished from July 1, 1954 through October 31, 1954. Despite the turnout of good farm crops, farmers are still looking towards better management of their tim- berlands, which is another farm crop. Any landowner who wants ad vice on the proper imainagement of his timberland should write to the District Forester, P. O. Box 381, Newberry, S. C. He can also request assistance through the County Agent, Soil Conservation Service or County Ranger. STUDY CLUB TO MEET WEDNESDAY Holiday decorations will be featured at the meeting of the Garden Study Club Wednesday, November 16 at 4:00 p. m. in the downstairs conference room of the Wessels Library. Mrs. Lloyd Hamiter of Columbia will be guest speaker. All members of the club and the Junior Garden club members are urged to be present. ADAMS INFANT DIES Lisa Gail Adams, infant daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Ad ams, died early Saturday morning at the Baptist hospital in Colum bia. She is survived by her parents,; one half-sister, Bobbin Lou Kulas of Prosperity; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.-Herbert Gladden and a number of uncles and aunts. Funeral services were held at five o’clock Sunday at the grave side in Springdale cemetery here by Rev. John Koch. NEWBERRIAN’S SISTER DIES IN N. C. . Mrs. L. N. Brown, Troutman, N. C., sister of Mrs. R. A. Goodman, College Campus, died at the Ire dell Memorial Hospital in States ville, N. C., Wednesday morning, November 9th. UNIVERSITY Mrs. Sarah B. Rucker of New berry is enrolled at the University of South Carolina this semester. She is currently taking a Sat urday class in “Adolescent Growth and Development” taught by Dr. L. E. Giles. Mrs. Rucker i sa graduate stu dent in the School of Education. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lander Oollere in 1935. Through a clerical error, her name was omitted from the list of Newberry county students attend ing the University which was published in the newspapers re cently. MISS DICKERT ON YWCA CABINET Miss Harriet Dickert of New berry is a member of the YWCA cabinet at the University of S. C. YWCA president Judy Clarkke of Columbia announced this week. The Fort Jackson Eagles bask etball team opens Its pre-season exhibition schedule Tuesday at the Post Field house against New berry College. Tip-off time for the game is ~7 p. m., after' a scrim mage in the afternoon. The Eagles will wind np their exhibition schedule with games November 29 and 30 against Eglin Air Force Base. They open the regular season with a home game against Camp Stewart, December 6th. The Indians’ basketball season begins on November 30 against Lenoir-Rhyne at Hickory, North Carolina, following on December 2nd with a game against North Georgia College and on December 3 versus Piedmont College, the latter two games to be in Mac- Lean Gymnasium at 8:00 p. m.
