GETS PRIZE FOR GARDEN WORK

The members of the Iris Gard
en Club held their October meet
ing Thursday afternoon, Oct. 20
at Hal Kohn’s nursery. Mr. Kobn
talked to the group on the mak
ing and value of liquid fertilizer
and also talked about arranging
flowers in oasis. After his talk he
took the group on a tour of the
nursery.
Mrs. John Earl Dawkins, the
hostess of the afternoon, served
sandwiches, cake and Cokes.
The ideal Indian summer after
noon made the meeting a memor-
able and pleasant one.
The Newberry Conference Mis
sion Study Class will be held at_
Grace church, October 30, from
2:30 to 5:30 p. m. and from 6:30
to 8:30. Those attending will
bring sandwiches and cookies and j
drinks will he served by the local
Women of the Church.
Rev. Louis Bowers, missionary
to Africa, will be the guest teach
er on the world theme, “This
Revolutionary Faith.”
Mrs. Nan Wheeler Ward has
moved to Columbia, where she is
employed in the shoe department
of Haltiwanger’s. She has been
living Jn an apartment of Mr. and
Mrs. James Wicker’s home. She
left Sunday for Columbia.

the week with her son and daugh
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mower
Singley at their summer home at
Windy Hill near Myrtle Beach.

home after undergoing treatment
at the Newberry Memorial hospi
tal.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Brown and
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Browne of
Cherryville, N. C. were visitors in
the home of Mrs. J. Frank Browne
last Monday and Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Wise spent
the weekend in Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wilson,
Sr. and their two daughters have
returned to their home in Knox
ville, Tenn. after a few days visit
with their parents, Mjr. and Mrs.
Marvin Wilson, Sr. near New
berry and Mrs. J. Ross Beden
baugh in Prosperity. Mr. and
Mrs. Wilson came especially for
the Carolina-Clemson game.
Dr. and Mrs. Frank W. Shealy
were supper guests of Mrs. Frank
Browne last Friday. They were
enroute from their home in Char
leston to visit Mrs. Shealy’s rela
tives in Qreenville.
Weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs W A Ballentine were their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. David Lee and their two
children of Clemson.

Wilma Boozer, 4-H member of
Stoney Hill Club, attended the
State 4-H Achievement Program
at the State Fair Friday and Sat
urday, October 21 and 22. The
names of over 100 boys and girls
were announced as state winners
in various 4-H club projects and
achievements at an achievement
banquet held at the Jefferson Ho
tel Friday night

ing the past two years in the
Carolina Garden Project, Wilma
was awarded a check for $25.00.
Wilma has been in 4-H club
work three years and completed

Mrs. Carrie Adams
Services Today
Mrs. Carrie Cromer Adams, 69,
wife of Ernest J. Adams, resident
of First street, died early Wed
nesday morning at the Newberry
County Memorial Hospital after an
illness of several months. Mrs.
Adams was born and reared in the
New Hope section of Newberry
County, the daughter of the late
Jacob E. and Sally Dickert Cromer.
She had made her home in New
berry 21 years, where she was an
active member of the Lewis
Methodist Church as long as her
health permitted.
She was honored by a having a
circle named Carrie Adams Circle.
She was also active In Sunday
School work. She and Mr. Adams
celebrated their 56th wedding an
niversary last December.
Besides her husband, she is sur
vived by four sons, Virgil, Horace
and Edwin Adams, all of Newber
ry, end Jacob Adams, Rock Hill:
eight daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Ki-
nard, Mrs. Ethel Schumpert, Mrs.
Nina Perdue, Mrs. Janie Nichols,
Mrs. Frances Waites, all of New
berry; Mrs. Sara Felker, Whit
mire; Mrs. Roberta Nance, Colum
bia; Mrs. Anna Margaret Ashford,
Williamsburg, Pa.; four sisters,
Mrs^ Wilbur J. Ringer and Mrs.

23, for Mr. and Mrs. Carter Abrams
who were recently married.

ements of dahlias, roses, gladioli
and chrysanthemums.

the guests and presented them to
the receiving line, composed of
Mr. and Mrs. Graham, Mr. and
Mrs. Abrams and Mrs. Arlie John
ston, mother of Mrs. Abrams. Mrs.
Abrams, the former Miss Tommie
Johnson, wore her wedding dress,
a lovely white embroidered nylon
and net with tiered skirt with
which she wore a corsage of sweet
